The double try or eight-point try: Once a try is scored, the captain of the scoring team can advise the referee that the team will forgo the conversion and opt for the chance to have an additional play instead. Once a team decides to attempt the eight-point try, both sides can interchange to bring on offensive or defensive players. Play will then resume anywhere between the 10 and 20 metre mark and in line with where the try was scored. There is no kicking allowed in the extra play the attacking team must break the defensive line to score. Any stoppage other than a try will see the match restart with a kick-off from halfway.
^ (Bman) Where is that from?
Seems like they have been watching american football.... these "inovations" seem to take their inspiration from yankball. Thing is, I don't like these aspects of american footy (ref talking to the TV, coaches with mics, et cetera). ITS JUST NOT FOOTBALL!
For the double try play a good rule would be for the attacking team to have the option of removing one or two players from the defensive line to make it more interesting.
"Any stoppage other than a try will see the match restart with a kick-off from halfway."
Does this mean there is nothing to stop the defending side from either all being off-side, attempting to either intentionally knock-on or even tackle players without the ball to try and stop the play
That's the only way I could see it workingThat's what I was thinking, maybe if the defending team concedes a penalty, the attacking team actually gets that penalty.
