What do you guys think. Do you watch this show.ST GEORGE Illawarra have pulled the plug on fans wanting an inside view into their club's pre-season after inexplicably refusing to take part in a television show dedicated to the red and whites. The Daily Telegraph can reveal that Dragons management rejected the chance to take part in a 30-minute episode of Fox Sports television show Rugby League Summertime, which contains interviews with coaches, star players and new recruits along with footage of each club's off-season training program.
Every Sydney club agreed to the positive publicity, which airs at 7pm on Fridays and is replayed twice a week - except the Dragons.
Producer and host David Tapp, who runs a production company called Power Productions, last night hit out at St George Illawarra's stance and questioned why the club was robbing supporters of free coverage.
A frustrated Tapp even emailed NRL chief executive David Gallop and media and communications director John Brady to express his disappointment.
Tapp personally emailed chief executive Peter Doust pleading for access to Dragons training to promote the club - but was denied.
Doust responded by writing: "We are not prepared to provide access to the content you are looking for. I recognise and understand the work you are doing on behalf of rugby league but unfortunately your objectives do not correlate with ours."
Tapp, in Brisbane today filming the Broncos program with Manly to be shown tonight, said the Dragons missed a golden opportunity to promote their club and sponsors.
"I'm not going to lie to you - it is very disappointing for St George Illawarra fans," said Tapp, the former Souths CEO. "Dragons fans are peppering us with inquiries about when their team will be aired. Sadly it won't be happening.
"I started to correspond with the Dragons in November but got no responses to my emails or calls. All we want to do is promote the game and the club. It's not a carve-up. We have been to every other club in Sydney. We just go there and talk footy.
"I would have thought it'd be in the best interests for the club's sponsors to have their logos emblazoned across the television for 30 minutes, three times a week."
Doust yesterday explained why his club refused to be filmed.
"All clubs are working hard to communicate with fans at this time through the media and through the club network and we will continue to do both. We can't meet everyone's needs all of the time however," he said. "The show is privately produced and our last experience with it two years ago was far from perfect.
"There was no co-operation in sharing content with our fans and we found the company hard-line in a business sense.
"We meet an enormous number of media commitments each year but we cannot meet every request, and we remain confident fans have plenty of access to team information through the wider media and club network."
