You can't be running sideways against the better defensive sides like the storm & expect to have success. The storm just gobbled them up all night everytime they went sideways. Our early success was on the back of direct running.
If you can see it. Why not the coaching staff. And why cant they see that JDB is OK passing the ball..but engage or poke through the line first..not well before. Run hard and straight and support our ball carriers. They are too scared to try anything differrent.

But seriously I think Mary has something as a coach as the team plays for 80..but..something is missing....he is now 4 out of last 15 outings. Another loss against the Sharks = 25% success rate in 2/3rds of a season. No coach lower ATM..not even McFadden.
He needs to stop relying on work and attack in progress and building combinations blah blah...or blaming average player injuries for losses (last years comments) and start winning games.

Give it up, I already explained that to him and asked for a shred of evidence of a moment where his team would have made a positive different. He's a flake and he couldnt. Claims to be a lawyer and intellectual, yet cant put together a simple argument to back his case.

I find frustrating the need to present an argument for what is evidently common sense.

You know the word evidently is derived from evidence right? The stuff you have presented none of to back your claim?

Anywho... BennyV is right, the selections were fine last night, problems were Dugan defending on the wing (fixed after he got burned, first try was bad positioning, second was beat for speed) poor use of interchange and not continuing to play direct and with multiple bodies in motion like the first 15. Throw in nighty's screw up off the kick off and the poor calls and that's the difference. If we can play 60+ minutes like we did the first 15 then we win most games this season.

Our main issue last night was with the outside backs specifically the right side. Two lapses in defence out there and no penetration in attack. I would switch Flo back over to the right and bring in Matautai for Aitken.
Aitken is a good kid but he is not a winger, you get found out at this level if you're out of position. Put Nightingale next to Dugan on the right and the side will be much sounder defensively.

My backline next week:

1) Mann
2) Nightingale
3) Dugan
4) Lafai
5) Matautai
6) Widdop
7) Benji

This has got much better balance and if this was our backline last night we would have won.

Dugan was on the wing both times in defence when they scored so it wasn't Aitken out of position it was Dugan who was hopelessly beaten.

When Aitken defended as the winger no more tries down that side despite Storm having several good raids.

As i said on another thread Dugan was concussed from the head knock he took from Packer and never recovered ....That"s why he was on the wing in a effort to keep him out there . I have been told he is in doubt for the Sharks game as well .

A common sense statement is often self evident.

Not when arguments with evidence have been presented contrary to that statement. The evidence, self or otherwise, denies what you arw saying.

So unless you can back it up with evidence, you'll continue to be seen as an unintelligent blowass with little football knowledge.

i hope he is out for the sharks game - it will give mary a chance to put players in their correct positions and see what a difference it will make.

first, i think we played ok and like has been said, were mighty unlucky with a few really important refereeing decisions...and this is happening too often, especially with certain teams seemingly getting the rub of the green on a regular basis. When commentators can see and call mistakes accurately from the commentary box, there is no excuse for the officials on the ground to f*ck up over and over and over again!
Secondly, I still think hooker (not going to go into it - been done to death already) and halfback (love both Benji and Widdop as individuals, but not as a pair - we need an organiser) need to change for us to reach our potential. I think the rest of our team is quite good, so the fact we are stuck with the same old problems is pretty depressing.
Left field...I'd be playing duges outside aitken. He doesn't need to pass, he can return kicks and gets more room to run...

I always had a feeling with the media saying we have too many outside backs to go into the first grade squad that Mary may confuse himself and not know the right way to go.
Not sure our coaching staff yet have or can work out the right back 5 and their best position outside FLO who deserves to be a walk up start.
Even with FLO I am not sure they know which side suits his game best. In 2010-2014 he was a gun on the right side. 2015 defensive compressed structure confused him and injury stifled him.
The KIWIS play him on the left side late last year and does well.
No I am confused which is his better side..no wonder the coaches are.

And I will say again not sure Mann was a great signing but he is a Dragons now and I will support him and I think he has some game but not the starring role in our backline. One double pump cut out pass for a try does not make a star.

He did not look fully comfortable in the centres at the Storm and did OK or better for them when put on the wing (defensively and finishing off tries).

So based on that and unless some reserve grade wingers knock down the door to be selected then I still believe 1. Dugan, centres lafai & Aitken, Mann and Flo are our best fit wingers in the short term or Matautai for Mann whoever you prefer in attack.

I've always wondered
Are you a closet Broncos' fan?

you know me better than that ;)
my point is sometimes adversity such as player injuries forces the coach to play a hand that otherwise he would be too hesitant to play.
and sometimes such adversities reveal a silver lining....
