Catalans Dragons ran in nine tries as they hammered Castleford in Carcassonne on Saturday night.

It was 10-10 as the break approached after tries from Thomas Bosc and Mark Hughes for the hosts and Michael Platt and Ben Roarty for Castleford.

Bruno Verges then went over for a quick brace and the Dragons cut loose.
Hughes and Verges both scored again after the break and Justin Murphy and Jerome Guisset also crossed, while Luke Dyer scored for the Tigers.

That win should do their confidence and crowds a world of good. Chalking up a 50 - without Stacey - is a good effort for any side, no matter who it is against.

I watched the game and, apart from my happiness for the Dragons, the most significant thing to come out of it was not simply how bad Cas were, but just how thin RL playing depth is in the NH.

I read the other day that Steve Folkes was worried for Australia's playing depth after watching his reserve grade and youth teams getting 50 put on them - and that's in a country with some 250,000 players!

Some of the Cas players, both Brits and imports alike, were just so substandard it isn't true. Their heads dropped visibly and they simply gave up. One try, Murphy's was almost cringeworthy to watch, with the little fella incredible hulking his way through four tacklers, including Willie Manu, and the pathetic fullback (Platt I think) who was too scared to even go to the floor, to touch down.

Dobson is a tad boring but a good pivotal organisor. On the TRL forum French poster audois claimed Dobson's kicking game was 'impeccable', well, I thought it was pretty poor. In all the games I've seen Dobson play - three to date - his kicking game has been average, especially short, and he looks incabale of breaking the line. Good distribution and involvement, mind you.

Wilson had a very good game, and the big French lads Fellous (who I thought would struggle at SL level but who has been exceptional), Guisset and Fakir, plus the two hookers, Rinaldi and Berthezene were superb.

I love Potter's quote too: 'The players have definitely improved since I arrived.' Ha ha! I know he didn't mean it to sound so, but it does come off a bit arrogant....

I would think that the managment of the Catalans Dragons would have to be delighted so far with their early performance in the league.

Pulling in consistantly good crowds, sitting middle of the table, won a match on the road...

They have a full time top coach, who seems to be setting things in order.

I would think that they will only go up from here. I seriously think that this is a good thing for french RL, and the SL as well.

I only fear that they will be shoehorned into too small of a venue next year when their permanent home is finally finished with renovations.
