Pretty good, I thought.

I don't mind some of their electronic influenced music, but I really prefer their guitar driven songs like this one.

Really like it. They've been playing the hook for that song as basically a little jam session in between songs live for ages, so good to see them finally turn it into a song.

Will be interested to hear how the rest of the album turns out having heard the first song. The little previews and teasers they've been posting on social media during the recording process have all sounded a lot more like their old stuff.

Tend to agree. Hopefully there's more like it on the album. I loved up to black holes and then pretty much stopped listening to them. I am hopeful that changes soon.

Yeah There are only a handful of songs of theirs from Resistance and 2nd Law that I like. Resistance was easily their worst album, only had like 8 tracks when you take away the stupid symphony stuff and one of them was Guiding Light FFS

Hopefully all the Twilight hangers on have moved onto Lorde and whoever else the Hunger Games fills their soundtracks with so Muse can stop playing stupid stadium shows and return to simply creating music. Whenever a band starts spending huge amounts of time on "production" for their shows I tend to lose interest in seeing them live quickly. Only band I've ever seen where the production actually added to the affair and wasn't just papering over mailed in performances was Ramstein at Soundwave a couple years back.

I can think of a few. Tool, for example.

Give me Origin of Symmetry and Absolution any day of the week.

Edit: Psycho is pretty damn good. Bad me.

Funnily enough the production is one of the things I hate about Tool. I don't mind their music, and have seen them live a few times at festivals over the years which was good. Just don't need all the dramatics and whatever to go along with it.

Just give me a band on a stage playing their hearts out (plus a couple nice caps and a joint... :sarcasm:) and thats all I need!

They've released the 2nd single "Dead Inside" today....

It is Guiding Light levels of shit. It sounds like someone trying to make a pseudo Echo tribute song.... Poorly.

How this song and Psycho can exist on the same album has got me beat. Clearly going to be a few immediately skipable duds on Drones as there were on their last 2 albums

Muse jumped the shark 2 albums ago, shame they were very good up until then. And a fantastic live act.

The 2nd single, Mercy will be released on Monday. Psycho had not been officially released as a single, rather a radio-only thingy.

Found this one on Youtube, Reapers. Killer riff.

After receiving the album and giving it a few plays through to give them all a good shot, I actually quite like it. Their best album since Blackholes anyway.

There is still some standard Muse album filler in there (Revolt, Aftermath), but the rest are actually quite good. Some aren't really able to just be tossed on whenever (Globalist, Defector), but a couple more (Reaper, The Handler) are really very good.

Mercy is a pretty weak song. Don't know why its being pushed as a single. Its not bad as such but nothing special. Definitely find myself skipping it.

As for Dead Inside, I've done a complete 180 on that song. I hated it when it was first released, but then after a few more listens I've found it to be a great song while driving along. Its in my running playlist as well as it keeps a good rhythm.

I would say anyone giving this album a listen, do yourself a favour and do it right. Get comfy on the couch, have some of whatever your favourite vice is next to you, toss on some high quality headphones if you have them and listen to it the whole way through without interruption. The album kicks ass in that setting.

If you just listen to some tracks here and there shuffled in with other music, it makes a lot of the songs sound out of place. Especially the filler songs

I have now done my customary thrashing of a new album, and I absolutely love this album. Better than The 2nd Law and The Resistance, not that they were crap in any way - far from it.

I would without hesitation list Defector within my top 5 Muse songs right now.

Also love Reapers - would be an awesome song to hear live.

The final song, which appears to have been sung acapella style is a fitting end given the running theme through the album.
