Kurt Gidley is no longer a certainty and we are crying out for leadership.

I thought Nathan Hindmarsh had retired from rep football? He would be a worthy captain for the NSW side if he was picked though.

In my mind its a no brainer. But I think he would need to commit to red footy for 2 or 3 years. Dont really like transitional captains.

Hindmarsh yesterday told The Daily Telegraph he was hungry to reclaim his Origin jersey and admitted he would be keen to captain the side if selectors thought he was the right man for the job.

"I would love to be captain of NSW. I would absolutely love in," Hindmarsh said, dismissing speculation he intends to stand down from representative football.

"I would take that on board with open arms."

Former NSW captain Steve Mortimer yesterday said Hindmarsh must be recalled for Origin this year and backed him as a potential skipper.

Mortimer, the Blues' first series-winning captain, said the inspirational Eels second-rower was the type of the leader players follow.

"He's the sort of player that I would take great comfort rowing in the same boat as me," he said.

"Origin is about players that can hang in when it's tough and someone like Nathan Hindmarsh ... it would not surprise me if he came in for serious thinking from selectors."

With Eels captain Nathan Cayless in charge at club level for five years, Hindmarsh has only skippered the side on a handful of occasions, but the 30-year-old back-rower insists he is up to the challenge of leading the Blues, who are desperate to prevent Queensland from winning a fifth straight series.

At pains not to talk himself up at the expense of Gidley, Hindmarsh said his inexperience as a club captain was not an issue.

"I don't see why I couldn't do it," the Eels stalwart said. "I've played enough first grade to know how to captain a side."

Hindmarsh has never officially retired.

Perhaps not officially, but he said in the press after the kangaroo tour that he was done with rep footy. Clearly has had a change of heart, which blues fans should rejoice in, but won't once they realise the selectors aren't interested in him.

Agree 100% with Phil Gould (not a typo) that Hindmarsh should have been the first backrower picked for NSW for the past several years, and their captin to boot.

Gidley should be nowhere near the NSW team let alone captain, Hindy is well respected and would do a terrific job.

Rep teams especially NSW is a reflection on the teams that have led the competition in previous years.

Hindmarsh suffered because we didn't make the 8 on some occassions and other times because backrowers in other highly ranked teams are younger.

Last year it was all about Manly, this year I expect St George to get a few in there.

Bloody oath he should. I'm sick of NSW losing and I'd hate for Gidley to get a starting spot just because of the leadership role.

Hindy should have been given the captaincy last year.

If it was as the club captain you could have a point. In Origin it isn't really that big an issue but even so he is here until 2012 so he could play 2 more seasons for the Blues if he wants.

I'd be more than happy to see it. Deserving if he does.

Hm, I thought Hindmarsh had retired. In that case, yes I would pick him and make him captain.

Geez State of Origin time may hurt us with the potential of Hindmarsh, Hayne, Tahu and Poore out and there are some dark horses in the team who may get a shot or at least be given the opportunity to make the squad.

Good side PG. I would have Tahu in for Cooper and maybe Josh Morris on the wing.

Josh Morris into the centres to partner his brother and swap Jennings and Tahu around. Start with O'Donnell or Watmough and drop Stewart for another forward. All three are eighty minute players and you don't need all three. Shillington is a filthy Qlder by the way.

As for Soward? Why? So we can watch Inglis throw him off?

1. Hayne
2. Jennings
3. Tahu
4. Morris, J
5. Morris, B
6. Carney
7. Pearce
8. Weyman
