With Bird gone, what are the odds Cronulla will make a play for Dugan: by shuffling their backline & guaranteeing him the #1 jersey?

TBH who wants Dugan other than Dragons? Most teams have an established FB or have just bought one and won't pay him for centre $$ like we will i think he will stay

The Sharks would only pay Bird 700k for a centre position. They've got Holms at fullback and won't pay 1m to Dugan for centre. I would think they wouldn't pay Dugan 700k for centre.

If the Tigers lose Tedesco, I could see them chasing Dugan or if the Dogs or Roosters miss Tedesco, maybe they would chase Dugan.

I doubt there are any plans to move Holmes. Having his struggles but needs time in the position.

Can't see Sharks chasing the duges, but hey, stranger things right?

They will be still be struggling to keep Maloney and Townsend amongst others.
Why?

I think at this stage it's do they want to keep Townsend. Actually with Bird gone it's probably likely they will announce him signed soon.

They also will not go anywhere near the sort of money his manager was seeking.

Just the reports on Townsend price tag after Hunt signed and I had read somewhere Maloney was seeking an upgrade on what he is supposed to on for 2018. With what Holmes signed for do you really think that you guys would move him to wing and chase Dugan?

Can't see us chasing Dugan to be honest.
If Townsend isn't resigned I could see us having a go at Widdop.

With Bird gone and Barba money I don't think upgrading Maloney would be an issue. Chad is kidding himself if he thinks he will get weird money, but a fair deal is doable.

I don't think moving Holmes will happen, but as I have said before, stranger things happen and we are all left scratching our heads

Stop dreaming !! The top dollar offer for Bird was $700k a season - DUGAN is already at $750k a season w Dragons plus Valentine Holmes is the FB hence why he signed an $800k a year contract - pretty sure he won't be playing on the wing for that sort of $$$

A couple of posts in this thread prove that in the current market frenzy , any off contract player could find a new club , if they were chasing top dollar .

Wether it be Dugan or Widdop ( as suggested by the Sharks supporter ) players could find themselves wearing another teams colours , if the money was right .

At the end of the day , it comes back to wether a player is happy where he is and if so , would he accept a contract renewal with his current club , perhaps at a lesser amount than that offered by rivals ?

Is Dugan happy at the Dragons ? According to what he has said on a number of occasions , yes . The offer by the club , he is not happy with , therefore he may leave for a better offer , sad , but that is the reality of the situation . Gareth Widdop is different . Apparently he is happy with the offer , plus his circumstances are different to Dugan's . And that is he and his family are happily settled in the Wollongong area . Will he accept the club's offer ? Most likely .

The big difference now is the revised salary cap figure and that is what the Dragons must now budget to , unlike some clubs , we simply do not have excess amounts that can be thrown at players , more so after signing Ben Hunt . Sooner , much sooner than we may expect , both Dugan and Widdop may make that final decision . We can only hope that they do indeed enjoy playing in the Big Red V .
