So let's just play young blokes for the sake of blooding them. Let's give them a participation award too. Like I said which young players are screaming to replace players in our first grade squad on form? We need to be worried about winning games , you play your best 17. Not next years, their time will come. There's not many jack birds but we aren't the only ones to have lost him.
We signed Kerr for 2 years and it was hailed as a super signing and people who questioned were given what for.
He is languishing in reggies and not getting any blooding despite good form so what would you do with him?
Expect him to stay and sign again with no game time?
Yet people in here suggesting we sign other clubs 22 and 24 year old props to replace Packer.
There is always an element of risk with the future but if we don't take that risk otherwise we will always be buying other clubs players.

So who would you replace for Kerr? Packer?vaughn?lam? Simms?thompson? Last spot at the moment has been earnt by sele - a young player who has been blooded.last I checked we had a fairly tough draw till late. I wouldn't have swapped any of those forwards for Kerr.

Elroy I see your point and yes its hard to change a winning side and can't replace the Guy's you mentioned . But when we had the chance to blood players and try different combinations when we were the worst attacking team I have seen nothing was done . Its not about now its about when things don't go well or we have injuries will he blood players or move a forward to play 5/8 as he did before .....

Last year was the time mate and the jdb to half was diabolical. I agree. Maybe field to half was the way to go this season but I understand why Mary went with mccrone although I believe he is best suited as a back up hooker at best. But my point is guys are being blooded as needed. Young kids need to be demanding selection through their footy and first graders need to be losing their spots through poor form, not for the sake of giving a bloke a go, I hated when blokes got a sympathy run in park footy, this is nrl

I'd say, until a replacement is recruited for Packer, Kerr and Lawrie are the obvious candidates for the two vacant prop positions - if they are capable of playing at first grade level. Potential prop rotation to be:

Vaughan
Ah Mau
Kerr
Lawrie

Unless Kerr or Lawrie is a real find like Vaughan was, we will really feel the loss of Packer. So the reason for testing these two props in an effort to discover the need/no need to recruit a replacement prop. I would like to see each prop be tested, coming off the bench in turn over a 3 game period, before making any recruitment decisions. Each would take Sims's place in the prop rotation.

Sims is not a prop and really never will be. He is an edge forward and should not be retained when his contract ends mainly because we have some very good young edge forwards coming through such as:

Sele
Host
Leilua

In my opinion, each of the above edge forwards have been given first grade testing. Sele and Host in my opinion seem to have passed the test. Leilua should be the next cab off the rank and when he is considered ready for testing again, should occupy the fourth place on the bench. Of the 3 backrow forwards to be promoted to first grade, Sele seems to be the most ready however, who ever it is he will have to replace Sims and so must demonstrate a superior effort to Sims.

I see Sims and Thompson not being retained at contract's end. At this stage I see Leilua taking Thompson's place and Sele taking Sims's place. Host it seems will be either on the bench - when a four forward bench is required or being ready to back up when a forward vacancy occurs through injury or rep duties.

Agree so let's hope he has changed and things do happen the right way now that he has extended his contract ....

Our $6m acquisition just got dumped to reggies by Bennett and we are too frightened to even look at replacing Mc Crone.
Is Sims really going that well that we can't have a look at Kerr?
Last time I looked at Sims was going OK but not that well he can force his way into a run on side nor was his impact been devastating off the bench.
Our side is so fit if something isn't working for a half a game we can probably cover it.
Sele is the 1 exception re blooding, so we could even shuffle him back and forward for a couple of weeks while we look at a few options for as well as he is doing he will also benefit from some extra game time in the lower grade.
We always seem to be finding ways not to do rather finding ways to do.

BEnnets team is losing, we arent. Our players are doing the job. Agree with you on mc crone. But sims? Are you watching what he is doing in defense? First few games were slow but Gen is really warming up to the challenge, line speed and talk in defense and all the little thinkgs off the ball I have been impressed. He doesn't get dropped for a rookie so we can "have a look"

As I said we find ways not to.
You and I view Sims output differently.
I see you say he is warming up to the challenge one would have thought he should have been performing like a beast from game 1 and TBH line speed, talk in defense and little things off the ball is that what he is doing well?
I would have thought smashing people, line breaks, off loads and scoring tries might be a slightly higher priority.

I can see points from everyone here , so lets just say if a player is not playing well or we have injuries that our coach will start to blood players .

Forgot to mention that the Broncs are 1 win behind us and yet to have a bye so if we are going well then they are hardly going bad.
So on your premiss that they dropped Hunt because they are losing then who did we drop when we were losing 3 out of 4 I think?
Some changes were forced by injury but no one got dropped and therein lies the difference you agree with Bennett but didn't think it warranted for us.

We played the top 3 teams and just missed that killer punch with Widdop missing. The rest of the team played well

Melbourne smashed us and we got a few late tries to make it look decent.
Easts should have smashed us but took the foot of the throat and we came back late.
Anyway you are happy the way it is all going and see no need to tinker.
I am also pleased we are going better but see an opportunity that might make a difference and make us better.
I see a need to have proper development for more than just 1 player and you see that need only arises though injury or a drop in form.
I suspect that if we don't blood players in preparation for the time they are required to play they will most likely preform moderate at best if not parody and people like you will say "there you go I told you they weren't good enough or ready enough".
If you think staying in reggies is what will make them good or prepared for 1st grade then I suggest your thinking is flawed.
Each to his own

I'm not against blooding at all, in fact I'm all for it. but you don't blood players by dropping performing first graders. Host, Luc,field and sele all have had a turn with lawrie looking like he is next to go. They will be blooded. Maybe dufty or field could have come in for duges, I would have been happy with that. If a player deserves to be dropped I'm all for it. If they are good enough they are ready.

Elroy Quote ( Maybe dufty or field could have come in for duges, ) This is where Mary falls down for me . This was the time to do it , so if we buy another fullback for next year then they will never get a go ....

We were smashing roosters till Widdop went off. We would have won buy 20 if he stayed on. The rest of the game the effort was there which is why we hung in.

The ref smashed us against Melbourne in the first half game over.
Second half we fought back well and we more than competitive once we were given a fair go by the whistle blower.
