NEW South Wales has beaten off the challenge from Australia's three other Super 14 franchises and the imminent threat from rugby league to secure the services of rising centre Clint Eadie for next season.

The son of former rugby league Test star Graham Eadie has set his sights on winning a spot in the Waratahs' Super 14 squad.

The 22-year-old, currently on the Waratahs tour of eastern Europe, has signed a letter of intent to join the NSW Rugby Academy and will put pen to paper when he returns home.

The academy has been set up by the NSW Rugby Union to target players it believes have the potential to become future Wallabies.

The northern beaches treelopper cut down some tall poppies with the Warringah club this season and it was no surprise he attracted attention, demonstrating the same powerful style that characterised his father's career with the Manly Sea Eagles, NSW and Australia.

"I had a bit of interest from all Super 14 sides, but in the end it came down to the Waratahs or the Brumbies," Eadie said after training at Moscow's Fila Stadium.

He was told he was welcome back at Manly, where he spent five seasons.

"The Waratahs have been good to me and I am happy in Sydney," he said. "It's my home and where my family is and where I want to stay. The Brumbies offered me the same kind of contract but wanted me to play for the Vikings down there."

Eadie has been one of the most impressive new players on the NSW tour, with a man-of-the-match performance against the Czech Republic.

Anyone know how good this guy is? Going by his age he could well be in the Tahs team by next year.

Where are NSW going to play him?

15- HEWAT
14- SAILOR
13- TUQUIRI
12- TURINUI
11- NORTON-KNIGHT
10-ROGERS
9-WHITAKER

I am really struggling to see him getting a start!

no way Norton-Knight will be in the #11.

it could well shape up like this:

9. Whitaker
10. Rogers
11. Tuquri
12. Eadie
13. Turinui
14. Sailor
15. Hewat

16. Norton-Knight

You may be forced to put either Norton-Knight or Hewat on the wing. Hewat was fantastic at fullback.

Clint Eadie had a good club season for the Warringah Rats, playing at either inside or outside centre. He is solid in attack and defence, looks a little bit like his old man, but IMHO he does not have what it takes to make the very top of the game.

But who knows, as he matures, he might add some strings to his bow.

I can see Norton Knight being put in at 12 depending on how well the Rogers experiment goes.
Hewart should have the 15 jersey wrapped up if Rogers is at 10.

Why should anyone make room for Eadie? the guy is good but nothing to right home about.... and I think Lote is ready to make the transition from wing to outside centre,

clint eadie and tom carter are both talented young bucks who should challenge for a bench spot. norton-knight cant play anywhere but five-eighth from what ive seen, but if rogers can prove himself as a top-class no. 10 he should probably get the nod over norton-knight. norton-knight's kicking is a bit suspect but his passing is amazing.

Norton Knight did quite well when he played fullback. Wing definitely isn't the spot for him, and haven't seen him at 12.

Norton Knight was good at fullback and obviously at 10. Inside centre might be an option but his tackling is not great, he misses quite a few.

no. 12 is a babysitter position so you would want a good defender who's not fragile and someone who can kick you out of trouble. rogers is as fragile as an ancient vase, so it might be back to shaun berne.

Rogers is playing 10 and did a good job of it. If he fails they will definitely go to Norton Knight. The 12 jersey is either Berne, or possibly Ben Jacobs. He was on the fringe of selection this year.

I think that the Tahs backline could be:

9. Whittaker
10. Rogers
11. Sailor
12. Turinui
13. Tuqiri
14. Playford
15. Hewatt

But every Super 14 franchise needs a heap of depth, not just for the bench, for for injuries that seem to happen often, maybe because the competition is held early in the season.

I like Tom Carter and Chris Siale at 12, more than I rate Eadie at this stage.

Jacobs probally would get the 12, but how are you going to put all these superstars in the same side!

People above have done it. All the superstars will be picked just a question of who will get the 12 or wing jersey depending where Tuqiri goes.

well we can see with jean de villiers at the boks that a winger can become a really good no. 12. im thinking peter hewat at no. 12 in this respect because he has a great kicking game and insanity is his middle name.
