Early penalties in first few minutes

I noticed this in the Dog's game and again yesterday.
I am sure it happened against the Titans too (I didnt see the start of the Dragons game).

We give away a stupid late tackle penalty on the first set of the game quite a lot.

If we kick off, some idiot will hold on too long and give a penalty on the 4th or 5th tackle and gift the other team early field position that we never recover from. As a result, we spend the first 5-10 minutes trying to hold them out and working our way out of our own 20m. We are getting dominated for field position early and by the time the inevitable first try is eventually scored against us, we are buggered and out of the game.

I'm not saying we would have won against the Dogs or Knights had we not given away the early penalty, but geez... a bit of discipline early would help to win that initial arm wrestle and allow us to go on the front foot first for a change!

Very true. It's monotonous. Penalties late in the count in defence and errors early in attack.

Vave and De-gois love to give a penalty away late in the tackle count.
Usually resulting in a try against us, the following set.

Well my reaction to that first penalty was that it was harsh in the extreme and I suspect the ref wanted to make some sort of statement real early to stamp his authority and appease the crowd who as the late Jack Gibson once said would boo santa claus.

Same scenario late in the half would not have drawn a penalty imo.

It's monotonous.

I'll tell you what is monotonous, kicking off to the same player every bloody time.

Just like our attack, our kickoff's are unimaginitive & predictable.

Willie Mason was handed the ball off every kickoff yesterday, except when he was on the bench.

Try something different you dickheads!!!

Frenzy.

That is as predictable as the sun rising. Moral of the story is don't give the referee a chance to blow the whistle.

What about the midfield bomb at the end of every set.. Is that some new play, so we don't kick it dead and give the opposition an extra tackle? Far out, try something else.

I think that was the intention, which resulted in piss poor defense.

We mostly tackled like we were scared of breaking them.

Hellooo! We're playing to our strength... You know we're better in the air than any other team!

I cringe when I see penalties on the 4th/5th tackle.

Should be a bench-able offense (I know, not enough interchanges, there should be an unlimited one for this), or one game suspension, repeat offenders get more until they are relegated to NSW cup or even park footy.

Just like in basketball, players get benched for doing stupid things (e.g. Andrew Bynum and Glen Davis shooting three pointers...)

It can be coached to try to give away a holding penalty early to find the referee's limits...has happened with a side I was a part of recently

We are just dumb and slow to learn last year the Roosters gave away the most penalties and still won it all.

But this year game is quicker you cant do this, but we decide to give away penalty after penalty.

Dosen't help we are the slowest side in the comp thats speed on the field and between the ears

Error, penalty, try.

Watch how often that happens. It is predictable as f**k with us.

The heads drop after each step and the end result is a try.

We have a habitual habit of being losers.

Good point - i yelled my digust at the tv yesterday.

I tell my kids..... That first set.
So important.

With the ball. Get a good 5 and a quality kick for field position. Applies pressure straight up.

In defence - set the tone and let them know youve turned up.

We tackle for 4 then give a piggyback penalty into our 10 metre line from the kickoff.

We appliy no pressure whatsover and allow it all on us in the first minute.

We are dumb dumb dumb.

I watched the replay yesterday, mostly to look at the reffing.

Taga hits Robets a millisecond after he passes it, the knights make a break & drop the ball. We pick it up & scoot away, then they blow the whistle. Ch nein show the replay in slow motion & the crowd boos. Penalty.

Later on, Isaac Degois hits a knight in similar circumstances, albeit a little higher. Gus goes "if the other one was a penalty, why isn't that?". Because the first one shouldn't have been you goose !

Later on, Carney gets smashed in similar circumstances & Gus said, "that's just a good tackle".

Goes to show bias from commentators & Ch 9.

& that take by Dariarse "ingoal" was a disgusting decision.

He leapt 1 legged into the air. That leg was most definetely in the field of play.

The ref was right there. How he got that wrong I'll never know.

Well I do know, pre-conceived idea to give every call in newcastle's favour. If it was manly they would've blown up big time. The ref thinks it's only Cronulla, so who cares.

Ch nein bias commentary proved that.
