Taylor is 42, Arthur is 39.........massive difference there.

Yeh but arthurs has shown his potential i mean look at manlys forwards and defence they are just so good. Sure taylor also has done the same thing for roosters but arthur to do that who's what only a rookie coach is a great potential plus he's more respect from players than taylor

Or how about this for a novel concept. None of us get to observe what a coach/assistant coach actually does at all training sessions, and we don't actually know how much a coach has contributed to what we see on the field.

I'm perpetually amazed by the number of people that can be so *certain* that a coach/player is shit / magnificent.

Agree that us slobs watching from the stands or on TV are unable to judge a coach, but it's pretty easy to judge a player in most facets of play.

About the only player quality you can't see from the stands is 'organising ability'.

Players are easier, yes. It's easy enough to judge the players 'at the extremes' i.e. the superstars and Connor Broadhurst. For the rest, while you can observe moment of brilliance / incompetence, you don't always get to see how a player goes when he has stronger/weaker players around him, how he plays under different tactical approaches, and the myriad other crap that goes on. Some positions it's a bit easier.

League supporters would be a boring bunch if they continually sat on the fence mumbling about how they are wildly indifferent.

Sure....I'm not suggesting the we should all be doubting Thomases...it's just the f**king level of certainty in extreme opinions that makes me wince. I, for one, reckon there's a pretty good chance that RS is a below-par coach...and said so on a number of occasions...I'm just willing to concede that I could be completely wrong.

I was thinking News Ltd should sponsor us because if we ever folded they would have nothing write about and thier sales would drop by 40%.

Barry - you can probably judge a coach by the results you see on the paddock as well, as well as the turnover off the paddock.

A good coach will have a defined game structure, run some kind of attacking plays, and have a defensive structure.
In that regard, both Hagan and Anderson were good coaches.
But then you look at how their recruitment efforts fared, and you realize they were a few eggs short of the dozen in that regard.

Kearney was like compound interest on bad debt.

Ricky doesn't have any attacking or defensive structure, and can't develop a player recruitment system - but can certainly sack somebody. We got the best out of him IMO - clear line in the sand and the chance for someone to start fresh next year.

You assume that because a team plays ugly that they haven't got any structure. But any team that gets dominated in the middle will look disorganised because they will have no space for their structure to become apparent.

Then there's the matter of lack of movement off the ball, which can happen for a lot of reasons beyond your assumption that the coach forgot to tell them to do it.

The main reasons would be lack of effort, lack of confidence and lack of trust. All things that good leadership can fix, but certainly not a tactical issue.
