Eels are not alone

I've been thinking about all the players the Eels have let go. Then I thought about how many the Dragons/Steelers let go. I have compiled a list.
Luke Patten
Ryan Girdler
Gordon Tallis
Craig Fitzgibbon
Jason Stevens
Daniel Heckenberg
Daniel Wagon
Kevin Campion
Willie Peters
Keiron Kerr
Lee Hookey
Ian Donnelly
Andrew Walker
Some pretty good players they have let go in my opinion. Some players went on to represent Australia, Queensland, NSW, City or Country. Plenty of them are juniors as well.

Don't forget the best buy of the season for any club, Amos Roberts. That is a strong list but nowhere near the extent of Parramatta's. Also take into consideration just who the coach was when they lost a number of those guys.

Girdler never played for St George/Illawarra, nor did Tallis.
How far do you want to go back.
You could make a list about any club if thats the case. Hell, even Manly let Fulton go.

My point is they are one club now and that is the list of players that could be playing today for the Dragons. All those players are playing today. My point is the Eels are not the only club that buys and releases players.

Well, how about you name a list from the last three season, when the discontent has set in at Parra.
Then compare the two clubs.

The Dragons may have let go a few players, but I don't think anyone would disagree with the fact that the players they have at the moment are better than the players they let go. I would say out of that entire list that Tallis and Fitzgibbon are the only players they wished they held onto. The difference between Parramatta and St George is that when they let go good players they still manage to keep a strong side, we have not done that.

Amos Roberts, Lee Hookey, Keiran Kerr, Daniel Heckenberg, Ian Donnelly, Willie Peters, Justin Smith, Solomn Humono to name a few. Pretty good list Suitman.

Yeah the Saints won the premiership last year? Made the semis? Nope they didn't do that. I agree they have a great side and may do well but the fact remains players come and go. Name me 6 players you would have keep at the Eels.

No they didn't make the semis, but they have a side that can compete for the premiership this year, we don't have that. Hell, their reserve grade side beat us last week.

I'll name a bunch of players we should have kept. PJ Marsh, Daniel Heckenberg, Scott Donald, Brad Drew, Ian Hindmarsh, Andrew Ryan, Brett Hodgson, Pat Richards, Willie Tonga, Shane Dunley, Steve Witt, Jason Cayless, David Solomona, Adam Mogg. Is that enough?

Actually, I'd say that is a run of the mill disguard list that any club could match. Except Parra, we'd beat it hands down. Only one player is doing well.......Roberts.

Now seriously name the players you would keep. Remembering we have to stay under the salary and have players like Morris, Cannings etc.

Buit Suitman all those players are playing first grade and were major signings for certain clubs. Are you saying they bought duds like Heckenberg who some people wanted Parra to resign.

The point isn't to include players like Morris or Cannings, if we hadn't let go Brad Drew and Jason Cayless we would have no need for them.

I'd have a side something like this

1. Hodgson
2. Donald
3. Mogg
4. Vaealiki
5. Grothe
6. Witt
7. Drew
8. N Cayless
9. Marsh
10. J Cayless
11. N Hindmarsh
12. I Hindmarsh
13. Ryan

14. Solomona
15. Vella
16. Wagon
17. Dunley

I would have 9 players we let go in our starting side.

St George on the other hand would have something like this

1. Hornby
2. Roberts
3. Gasnier
4. Cooper
5. Blacklock
6. Barrett
7. Firman
8. Ryles
9. Riddell
10. Bailey
11. Thompson
12. Kite
13. Timmins

as their starting side, the only player who would walk right in would be Roberts. They've made one mistake, we've made over a dozen.

I agree with Suitman. Those players may have been big signings for other clubs, but St George Illawarra aren't missing them at all. We ARE missing the players we've let go, that's the difference.

We had those players in 2002 and limped into the finals to be one of the first out. Don't get me wrong Parra has made some big mistakes in letting certain players go. But some of those players came from other clubs and have decided to move on. The players I would have kept would have been J. Cayless, A. Ryan and I. Hindmarsh and C. Schifcoske.
