Eels in the media

He clearly knew what was required. It was the lack of ability in the playing squad that brought him down. He took over a very weak roster and nobody could've turned that squad over in the time frame demanded by the fans. He took a big risk on Sandow which ultimately decided his fate at the Eels.

Worriers have plenty of ability.
That said. I dont think Bellyache could turn them into a footy team.

Big face isn't great but he is not as shit as most people would like to think. If Arthur had the same squad that Kearney did, he wouldn't have done much better.

I'm not so sure. Towards the end of last year our team was average and he managed to pull some good performances together.

Our team at the end of last year wasn't even as remotely shit as it was during the Chris Walker-Carl Webb-Paul FattyMcFatFat Years.

Plus they way that everyone had conspired against us brought about a unique set of circumstances which arguably increased the chances of a coach 'cutting through'.

Anyway, I still don't think Kearney is fit to lick Arthur's date. Just trying to put things into context.

Kearney is an insipid bloke. His tactics might be sound and he might have decent ideas about the game (debatable in itself given he bought Sandow and then tried to play structured Storm footy), but he just looks and sounds clueless. He's hardly an inspirational juggernaut.

He's probably a good assistant. He's not a head coaches testicle

FFS he wasn't trying to play structured Storm footy. Our gameplan was very simple (which is suitable for dumb halves like Sandow) and based on trying generate ruck speed before passing to Sandow (and Hayne and Roberts) to play off the cuff.

Because we didn't have the cattle to play any gameplan with success we were stuck with the simplest one, but because we rarely achieved quick play-the-balls (because cattle) all we could do was keep trying. What that looks like is 'one out shit up the middle' which for some reason looks to some punters like 'structured Storm footy'.

But Storm structure is like the structure of any team with smart playmakers (including us) and the ball is sent wherever the opposition has a weakness. Not just up the middle.

I think it's more that he's not confident enough to be cranky. And players pick up on that. The chicken and egg thing. Does self confidence come before respect, or does respect bring self confidence?
