Eels in the media

To be honest, I dont even class Gallen as being let go - ffs he played SG Ball for us and that was it. I would say at least the players that made it as far as NYC or Wenty were the ones we really "let go" - Tupou, Maloney and Yow Yee.
If they played FG for us and were not re-signed for whatever reason - that's just NRL these days.

Gallen didn't even play SG Ball. Was in a couple of Summer squads
Maloney was a Wenty player

What about Gareth Hock? Is it a coincidence we haven’t won a premiership since letting him go?

I was thinking Michael Witt and that Kylie bloke.

All jokes aside, didn’t David “Wolfman” play lower grades with his bro here and then went on to be an origin player with Manly ?

This is true. I can’t recall a time at the Eels where every player is on notice that the team will be picked on form (leaving aside kids who are being gently exposed to NRL).

Doesn’t seen to be inspiring too many at Wenty...

FMD this will make a few merkins blood boil.

Zero Tackle have listed the Top 10 Players the Eels Let Go Since 2000

https://www.nospam21.com/the-top-10-players-parramatta-have-let-go-since-2000-44652/10/

The link will probably come up as no spam, so you might have to google it yourself.

Anywho :rage::fire:

10. Joe Galuvao
9. John Morris
8. Clinton Schifcofske
7. Daniel Tupou
6. Jharal Yow Yeh
5. Brett Hodgson
4. Andrew Ryan
3. James Maloney
2. Jamie Lyon
1. Paul Gallen

Lol, John Morris.
Was a solid player and I liked him when he played for us, but if he’s in the top 10 players we “let go” then we aren't doing too badly.

Really only one of those players is a superstar - Jamie Lyon. Maloney and Gallen are very good players, but the rest were mostly just good solid first graders.

Yeah not too worried about the players we let go.

It's more about the players we can attract to the club.

We didn’t let Lyon go. He got “homesick” and then had no problems moving to England.
I reckon the only poor losses were Ryan and to a lot lesser extent Tupou but I reckon it was mostly a case of not being able to afford them. The others had way too much of a disconnect between being at club and coming good (Gallen) or we got good mileage out of them (Hodgson)

Right on all counts. They should postscript that Ryan signing to the Dogs as being just prior to when the Oasis shit hit the fan. So they offered him overs whist they were cheating. Lyon was not a loss, but Willie Tonga certainly was and was part of that Lyon equation.

f**k completely forgot Tonga! What was it? Tonga plays handful games in 03, signs with Dogs in offseason, Lyon quits 1 game into 04 and Tonga goes onto represent Queensland and Australia? Really highlights what a dick Lyon was

Then, for 2005 Smith went on the hunt for a quality 3/4, Tate and Tahu, also knowing Ben Smith was waiting to make the step up. Lose a few, replaced them with quality.
