Well he tried to fix it. The NRL decided they were happy with his first reaction. And he's an NRL player. Of course he's dumb as dogshit.

Fix the mistake he made? Good on Matterson for (eventually) trying, but the horse had bolted.

It's like raising kids - if you give them an either-or choice to make, you don't just let them change their mind after it didn't work out the way they might have thought... you let them (and hope they will) learn from it for next time.

What’s rightful about it? If it’s his call why shouldn’t he be able to change his mind before the punishment is to occur?
Yeah why should the NRL give a crap ? What is the dangerous precedent that it might have been set by allowing the player to opt for fine over suspension ?

I also don’t get the gloating by some supporters who were seemingly willing the NRL to stick to their guns, to the detriment of their own club.

What? They did allow the player to opt for a fine over suspension. He just chose the suspension.

Who’s gloating you dribbler?? Most of us at the time said it was a f**king selfish decision that wasn’t going to be popular with team mates and fans alike. Remember you as usual tried to find yet another excuse for his shit behaviour. Tried to tell us maybe he was injured or playing for someone in the WC lol.

That was a Brett Kenny dip and swerve right there. Why shouldn’t a player have a larger window to make his decision? What dangerous precedent would it set ?

If a player wants to opt for the alternative punishment, who gives a shit ?
