Eels lose Morrison to injury

PARRAMATTA forward Glenn Morrison will miss the rest of the NRL regular season after undergoing surgery today to have a plate inserted in a badly broken finger.

Morrison suffered the injury in Friday night's 56-4 win over the Bulldogs at Parramatta Stadium, ruling him out of action until the finals start on the weekend of September 9.

Coach Brian Smith is yet to decide on a replacement for Sunday's blockbuster against St George-Illawarra at Oki Jubilee Stadium. Named on an extended six-man bench, Henry Perenara is likely to force his way into the squad.

Interesting. I remember seeing Morrison recieving attention for the injury on Friday night, but didn't think he'd miss so many matches for it.

A big blow for the Eels.

It wasn't a pretty sight after the game I can assure you.

Henry Perenara coming in?

That'll be interesting.

Hope not. Not a bad player but he gets penalised plenty for offside.....

Really?! It didn't look all that bad on the T.V., but then again, it was just the T.V.

Was it a dislocation or a break, or what was the actual injury itself, and can you give us any idea of how ugly it was?

Like I said, a big blow for you guys, one of the most underrated second rowers in the game IMO.

Perenara will either have a blinder or won't be seen; such is the case with all ex-Saints. They make us wish we still had them i.e. Amos Roberts, or make us glad we got rid of them i.e. Wise Kativerata

It was very bruised after the game. It was a break - he has had a plate inserted apparently. Big blow, yes, but hopefully our depth can cover for him being out. I'd rather see another prop brought in and Cayless playing back but then I'm not the coach.

Perenara isn't a bad player but his positionibng in defence leaves a lot to be desired. How hard is it to find the referee and stand in line?

Break, I believe. At the time it occured I thought dislocation, as the trainers seemed to be banging it into place, but I was sitting 50 metres away.

It's not a given that Perenara will play - there are a few scenarios kicking around as to what happens next. It is probably the most likely one, though.

With Tahu and Morrison out, I suppose that evens things up a little with Ryles (unlikely to play) and Cooper definitely out.

Will still be a cracker.

I'd just start with Widders and have Perenara ready to come on.

You lose the impact Widders makes off the bench. IMO I'd do the reverse and have Perenara start then replace him when you can with Widders.

Tend to agree. In any event, no chance you will see Widders running out to start. When you're on to a good thing...

very confident, because we have good enough depth to replace both players.

No Cooper and possibly Ryles. Evens things up a little. I've been of the opinion your boys should win in a close one but I wouldn't be surprised either if we scraped home.

I would say there is no chance they will risk Ryles considering we have the bye next week for him to recover. We all may be hyping this game up but the reality is that win/loss in rd 24 is really not that improtant in the overall scheme of things. Its better to have a fit team and firing in rd 26 than to go all out to possibly make the top two.

they first thought Morro's finger was dislocated, but watching them wrestle with it trying to put it back in, it wouldn't surprise me if the trainer broke his finger

Really!!!!

You would think that if it was broken and the trainer thought it was a dislocation that needed to be put back into place, Morro would have jumped through the roof.

So it does sound likely that the trainer busted it.
