Is it because they didnt back date watmough and only counted it when the retirement was submitted to the nrl last week?

I still don't understand Schubert saying "throw some numbers up in the air and see what happens.""

it sounds like something Brian Waldron would say

I'll go with yes and no

Same Twiz and for me, that's the crux of it.

No amount of injunctions, complaining about TPA's being added, claiming Watmough's retirement would mean we were under, etc. actually excuses the fact that I reckon we did try and cheat and for me, after spending 6 years whinging about Melbourne and boats and 2nd sets of books, etc, it is inexcusable and we should be punished.

Absolutely. But I would qualify that by saying that, in determining the penalty, we should only be hit for the breaches we've actually committed.

Do you think the penalty will be any different?

Dunno. I don't know wot ones we done. And I don't know what other communications exist to place the existing recordings in a different context.

If the allegations relating to the false invoicing stick, then no, I don't think the penalty will change. Nor should it.

Brent Read was just on triple M.

Basically believes with Morgs going to Melbourne and chocs retirement may not be enough to get us under, we may fall a little short meaning we may need to offload another top 25 player on possibly on lower tier bracket.. If that's the case then I can't possibly see how we can do it unless an English club can help us out.

I have a simple 2 part question, that I know won't get an official answer...

Did we (any of our current Board and/or Exec) KNOWINGLY attempt to break the salary cap compliance rules in order to exceed the salary cap limit and if so, do we as supporters think this is okay?

1) I dont know - i havent read anything official .... but my gut feel is yes
2) no

There is something else that I heard about late last week that might come into play and help us out Stagger - if it's true of course.

So what happened to Schuey's beliefs of the NRL numbers being wrong? ... was that media speculation? Was schuey wrong?

Seriously wtf is happening with getting cap compliant by Friday?

One day were 200k under the cap, the next if Watmough retires it will be enough to get cap compliant and now today's new one is even if Watmough retires it isn't enough?

How will anything be resolved if there is no clarity.

Driving me bonkers!

Lol. So if we can't get compliant, no chance in seeking a reduction in the penalty

At the end of the day schuey se ms pretty chilled about the situation and believes it will happen so maybe we've got to sit back and trust his word on it

did he mention anything about why the NRL didn't include Seward's evidence in their report?

Perhaps there is a game going on ... even the reports of schuey finding stuff didnt add up seemed to suggest we were still over about 200k ... which means we still need watmoughs money ... maybe the nrl wont play ball on getting that sorted quickly unless we drop the other stuff??? ... whi f**kin knows

I'm voting yes and yes. TPAs make a mockery of the 'level playing field' and so why not rort the cap?

Therefore, rorting to catch up (like we've done) is fine. Rorting to stay dominant (Melbourne made four straight grand finals and the Roosters were minor premiers three years in a row) is wrong.

els will slip under cap: Schubert
By James MacSmith - AAP on May 9, 2016, 6:33 pm

VIDEO NRL softens Parramatta sanctions

SHARE TWEET EMAIL
Parramatta consultant Ian Schubert is confident the NRL club will be under the salary cap by Friday and playing for competition points.

Schubert met with NRL salary cap auditor Jamie L'Oste Brown and integrity unit boss Nick Weeks on Monday at Rugby League Central and came away satisfied the Eels will squeeze their way under the cap within four days.

Parramatta meet South Sydney at Pirtek Stadium on Friday in round 10 of the NRL in their first match since the game's governing body handed down provisional sanctions regarding allegations of salary cap irregularities at the Eels.

If the Eels are under the cap when they take the field against the Rabbitohs they will be competing for premiership points.

"The club's very confident we can get to where we need to be for this weekend," former NRL salary cap auditor Schubert told reporters.

"We have a bit of homework to do, throw some numbers up in the air and see what happens.

"Most certainly the club will be cap compliant. We'll have a full capacity on Friday night and we'll be playing for points," he added.

The retirement of injury-struck forward Anthony Watmough is key to Parramatta's efforts to fall under the cap. The Eels need to shave $570,000 off their cap and Watmough's salary, said to be around $650,000 a year, would take out a big chunk of that, depending on when his retirement is calculated.

The former State of Origin forward suffered a knee injury in February and hasn't played since.

However it remains to be seen if Watmough's exit is enough to save the Eels. Three-quarter Ryan Morgan has left for Melbourne. But the Eels will need to move two more players into their top 25 at the base rate of $42,500, given half a year of this season's contract, which begins on November 1, has gone.

The fifth-placed Eels face the loss of their 12 points for salary cap breaches outlined by the NRL last week and risk losing any future points they earn if they do not get under the cap prior to the clash with Souths.

An NRL spokesman said the governing body wouldn't comment on Monday's discussions with the Eels until they had received the full submission on their plans to get under the cap. Those submissions could come as early as Tuesday.

Meanwhile, five Parramatta officials are again under NRL suspension after the NSW Supreme Court lifted an injunction order, but the group can still work on the club's response to its salary cap breach notice.

Eels chairman Steve Sharp, chief executive John Boulous, head of football Daniel Anderson, deputy chairman Tom Issa and director Peter Serrao will be limited to basic "fiduciary and statutory obligations" at the club.

The NRL initially suspended the quintet's registrations last Tuesday, indicating it plans to cancel them, when it handed down its provisional sanctions over the Eels salary cap scandal on Friday, before the five men successfully sought an injunction hours later.

The court's decision on Monday has reinstated the suspensions.
