Election Machinations

We're all eargerly waiting for the announcement of who is running, this tidbit in the report of the unveiling of the Ray Price statue has gone unnoticed, bit is of interest.

Our sources tell us veteran director Don Ritchie is almost certain not to run because of health issues, while Dr Michael Johnson has also been talking to several rebels about a possible switch of allegiance. Whether or not Fitzgerald wants 72-year-old chairman Alan Overton, unceremoniously dumped at the football club election, to run on his ticket is also uncertain. And it's unlikely the Emperor will have any joy convincing Eels greats who support him - Mick Cronin, Bob O'Reilly and Peter Wynn - to stick their necks out

So, if this is to be believed, Ritchie not to run, Ovo...not sure what he is doing and Dr Michael Johnson possibly jumping to the 3P camp?

If any incumbant jumps to 3P and runs with them, that would be very disappointing.

I'm not a supporter of the current board, not rusted on 3P by any means (how can I? we dont know who is running?), but, if a current director, whose performance, or lack thereof has probably contributed to the current state of affairs, I certainly wont be putting my vote that way.

It would smack of the most obvious form of opportunism one could imagine. I certainly hope he doesnt run for 3P and we have genuine choice.

I believe Don will definitely not run and was told that there's no truth to the Doc rumour.

Glad someone captured this bit of the weekend articles for discussion.

Interesting titbit about the Doc... anyone who is serving on the FC with 3P members and who wanted to make sure of holding their LC place would be silly not to talk about some form of deal with the "challenging" ticket, now their results have indicated they are serious contenders.

As for why don't 3P run more than 7 candidates and let the people pick... sounds like a democratic idea, but no way would it be sensible for them in their aims. They'd be smarter to come to a deal with an incumbent or two, and only name a team of 5 of their own, with a how-to-vote letter giving the final spots to incumbents they now know they can work with, in return for the same deal. Just in my opinion, divide and conquer.

I suspect the Doc is a smart operator... and would consider all his options. Whether he would be smart enough not to admit to it openly at this stage is of course another matter.

To maybe answer a question without really answering it which sometimes you need to do, re-read the below quote from the paper which was used at the top of this thread in post 1.

Quote:
while Dr Michael Johnson has also been talking to several rebels about a possible switch of allegiance.

Just because a newspaper says that "HE" is talking to "US" about a possible switch in allegiance, that does not mean that "WE" asked him or are even entertaining that idea at this point in time. The story however does not look good for a number of reasons. I can honestly tell you to the best of my knowledge that it was not us giving a story to the media and it is not a 3P publicity stunt or us trying to create waves.

I would hope 3P come up with some QUALITY people for the leagues club board. People with business acumen, and not just passionate eels supporters, or ex footballers. In the current financial situation, we are going to need to have extremely good operators running the leagues club to ensure our long term viability. Unfortunately, (or fortunately depending on how you view it), income from gambling revenue is going to drop significantly in the coming years, and we are going to need a board that is going to generate income, and sponsorship in particular, in different ways to what has been done previously. I would think that someone like Syd Kelly would be a great start as someone that could provide the guidance needed.

They have already said the ex-footballers are not even on the radar for LC elections.

Who is Sid Kelly, newmanj? The name alone isn't familiar to me...

Bartman,

I believe that Terry Leabeater will probably come online in the next day or two when time permits and will probably answer the above question in more detail as well as Newmanj's. A quick answer to your question Bartman is that Sid Kelly is a sponsor of the Parramatta Eels and has been for well over 20 years to the best of my knowledge. Could even be 25 or 30 continuous years. Sid is also an integral team member of 3P who has been with us since 3P formed. He was one of the two gentlemen that were on our original line up to go for the Football Club directorships. Both Sid and Mario Libertini however were ruled uneligible to run for the FC however so that then did not eventuate. Newmanj does know Sid from all of Sid's efforts for the club in the past and on top of the fact that he was involved back in 92 in another campaign for the board. I'll leave the rest to Terry.

Bartman,

I should probably add to the above that Sid has been and still is a very successful businessman in his own right and has provided a great hand in all 3P's work to date. Just wanted to clarify that he was not only a long term sponsor but brought other areas to our table as well. A good guy that you may meet and one of the next get-togethers.

Cheers for that background Col. As you may have picked up I was out of the country for four years or so recently, and as a result some of the finer details of people who have even become household names often escapes me.

For example, it took me a while to work out this Lara Bingle chick, and why people seem to give the slightest f**k about her ;-)

Bartman,

After reading your last post, if someone says to you "Where the bloody hell are you?", its a Bingle thing. Tell you about it later.

And when did he become our equivalent of David Beckham? I can't think of any past cricketing couples that rose to their height of publicity/interest, especially without anything going wrong (eg Warney and his missus).

And when (and why) did Michael Hussey become dubbed Mr Cricket? It all feels very Life on Mars or something... ;-)
