I didn’t see the pre-game head knock until well into the game when Vossy mentioned it. How the hell did he cop that knock, then one in the first half of game, and still be sent back.
Hope he has a speedy recovery.

Anyone remember Dallis Johnson playing the last twenty minutes of an Origin game in complete la la land?
Yep, but no one knew the effects of head knocks back then. You'd see it nearly every game, a player getting his lights out and then back in the defensive line a minute later.

Wonder if he’s played his last game

I know insurance will probably cover it but he should sue

He looked bad on the sideline during the game

It’s disgusting they allowed him to play after the head knock in training

Absolute disgrace he was allowed to play.

Listened to the Bloke in a Bar and Shaun Johnsons podcast today, both went into great details about the timeline of events

The astonishing thing is they didn't do an HIA when he got KO'd in warm ups.

No doubt the NRL will be investigating this and hopefully the medicals working on that game get de registered.

Bloke in the Bar also made the piont if Katoa has to medically retire he would be able to sue the NRL for lost future earnings.

Surely that’s not the case, do the doctors not think that concussions outside of a game count towards a concussion, or is it more cynical - he can’t fail a test that he doesn’t take

CODE Sports are reporting that no HIA was done after the warm ups KO.

They didn't even need an HIA, 1 look at the vision and you can see its a straight up category 1

Absolute f'ing disgrace by all those involved.

And what the F was Hopoate doing ? Why is the dumb c#nt jumping up and shoulde charging him in the head ?

Whichever Doctor it is that cleared him to play should be removed from the game permanently.

Seriously how the f**k do you clear him to play after this? Bloke could have died.

Yep copped 3 hits to the head, when you witness a player who is groggy still allowed to play, is like letting a drunk take control over a car. Surely what happened to the duty of care.

Remember the Cronulla/Parramatta player Ritson he took a hit to the head, scans the next day showed he a brain cyst..
Yeah, but it was also reported that if he didn't get KO'd and went for that scan they never would've found that existing cyst. Lomax's high shot probably saved his life.

Anyway, what does everyone expect from a bunch of amateurs like the Tongan staff? Absolute imbeciles all of them, including their coach. They sent an already concussed player out against arguably the most imposing forward pack ever assembled, with zero chance of making the final. What did they expect was going to happen to him?

Get well son Eli.

lol yeh sure
The coaches and medical staff aren't sitting around watching the pre match show or checking thier social media feeds. How would have they seen the footage?

There has to be some onus on the players. The article says players who saw the incident were asked how bad it was and they obviously didn't tell the truth, Katoa also needed to be honest and tell the staff he was knocked out.

Having said that, it's inexcusable they didn't perform an HIA, heads should roll over that.

The good news is Katoa can remember everything of the game and doesn't seem to be showing any further symptoms.

Boxers usually recover for 6 months after a fight, after those head knocks you'd expect Katoa won't return to footy for about 6 months.
