I had emailed Steve a couple of days ago about tigers signings and Benji Marshall...my reply was:

Hi David,
We are continuing to work with Benji & his manager re extending his contract (remember he is already signed for 2005).
Stapleton is NOT signed for 2005. We are continuing to review the signings issue.
Regards,
Steve

Just thought I'd let the fans know about this. Cheers

Getting a reply with basically no new info is one thing.....I've emailed a couple of times as well and when I do get a reply....hasnt been always....its basically the same old :blahb: :blahb: :blahb:

But with many fans contacting em and voicing concerns at least they will see there is concern from fans about securing Benjis services for the future.

Benji Marshall's manager Brett Papworth says the young star is in no hurry to commit beyond next season. Marshall, whose season was cut in half by injury, is contratced to the the Tigers on low money until the end of next season and the club has been trying to upgrade and extend his contract , but no agreement has been reached. "Money isnt the motivating factor for Benji otherwise we would've done something by now" Papworht said. "He gets on well with everyone at the Tigers but its a case of where he'll be best placed for the future. There's a good chance we'll reach an agreeement with the Tigers. but who knows for sure?"

To me it seems talks are going well but obviously there is no need to rush into things, since firstly Benji's injured so talks wont affect performance and of course he's got another year to go. So for me it was good to read that.

See the main problem with this is that he Benji was to agree with a deal now we would be taking money out of this years cap to help him out abit more - and this needs to be sorted out before the finals come around because any deals set after the regular season finishes go automatically onto next years cap (the same reason why all the bonus payments for finals are paid onto next years cap etc)

Out of what was said in the SMH however I would say Benji will be putting himself on the open market next year!

I've gotta say I thought that was disappointing, that article. Looks like he'll be on the open market for sure after 2005. Where's your bloody loyalty?

What loyalty does he owe the club ????

I mean he isn't a junior and we have hardly spent a cent on him - if anything the Wests Tigers have made at least 4 times as much as Benji will earn for his whole contract at the club unless it gets renegotiaited and even then we would of earned more off his name and crowd drawing flavor

Sure we brought him down from QLD but we all know he would of been snapped up by the Broncos or the Cowboys
