Emmitt Smith retires

It was a wonderful career and I think it'll be a long time before we see another RB as good and as dominant as he was in his prime.

I find it interesting though, only last week I read an article where he said something like "Did you see my season this year? I"m not ready to retire" (referring to his 937 yard season).

Thought it was fitting too that the Cowboys re-signed him on a "ceremonial contract" so he could retire a Cowboy.

I would of preferred Emmitt to be a one team player ala's Barry Sanders, Walter Payton etc. and I thought it was kinda sad to see him run around in the pathetic Arizona team.

Congrats on a great career, the title holder of the NFL rushing record which is perhaps the most prestigous in all of the NFL.

Now, can we please have Jerry Rice follow suit...at least Emmitt ended on somewhat of a highnote notching 937yds when most "experts" thought he would be a passenger and bit player.

Look for Jerome Bettis and perhaps Brett Favre to follow suit as well in the coming days.

Really, Favre? havnt heard anything about him leaving rather than the norm. Any more news on him. I know he's had a rough couple of years.. but i'ld hate to see him go.

I heard that Donald Driver let it slip on NFL radio that Brett Favre is soon to announce his up coming retirment! (no link or anything, sorry)

Anyway, well done a great carrer for Emmitt, just hope he doesnt make any sort of a comback.

Yea i heard about that Favre situation also.

Latest news on that is the packers have asked favre to decide early so they can either draft or pick up a qb in FA.

I'd say Favre will probably tell the Packers he'll have one more year, that way they can draft a young QB who will have a year to learn a thing or two off the "master".

Brett Favre's wife is dealing with cancer, his father passed away 12-18mths ago, he has achieved all there is in the NFL...the question he has to ask is family or football?

Brett Favre is a still a top 5-10 QB in the NFL despite a poor showing in the playoffs. Will he come back? I think he has one more 'farewell season' letting everyone know this is it...apparently he will let Sherman know by the end of the month. Either way, expext the Packers to draft a QB in Rounds 1 or 2 to work with Favre.
