id play elliot whitehead at center..

ferres & o'loughlin in the 2nd row and joe westerman at lock

You can't mess around playing forwards in the centres. Whitehead deserves a place in the squad but not there.

Shenton deserves another crack for sure - he is a much more mature player these days. I would partner him with Watkins. We have to play with pace and attacking threat.

c'mon they aren't 12year olds....

centers & 2nd rowers are the most interchangable positions on the field...9times out of 10 they attack and defend right next to each other..

I'm a proud Kiwi but I think that England should fancy their chances of some upsets this year if they pick their best players and don't have any major injuries. There is a lot to like about them now and while it is a massive loss that big Sam is gone they still have plenty to offer. I don't watch all Super League games but I do keep in the loop. Here is my best 17:

1. S Tomkins
2. J Charnley
3. K Watkins
4. L Cudjoe
5. R Hall
6. G Widdop
7. J Lomax
8. G Burgess
9. J Roby
10. J Graham
11. B Ferres
12. B Westwood
13. S O'Loughlin
14. D Clarke
15. C Bridge
16. T Burgess
17. C Hill

I'm a big believer of picking your best 17 players and that is why Lomax is there at 7. It's like when Kimmorly was playing too well to be left out of NSW... they moved Johns to hooker. Another option could be Tomkins in the halves and Hardaker at fullback, however, I fancy Zak may have ruined his chances for now. In my opinion Lomax is a quality half and I was surprised that he hasn't featured for England yet. I think he has the potential to trouble NZ and Aus unlike Matty Smith or Marc Sneyd who are steady players more suited to SL. I also like the kid Mellor from Widnes, but no-one seems to mention him and I have not seen enough Widnes games. When I have seen him he goes real good but the commentators think everything revolves around Kevin Brown! Shenton has had a fine season, but would not trouble NZ and Aus as much as Cudjoe. Cudjoe played well for England at the World Cup and has a bit more to offer. Roby is the only hooker in Super League that would walk into the majority on NRL teams, yes still. Westwood just has that toughness about him and O'Loughlin is still a quality player. Ferres was a standout last year. Graham and the Burgess boys have been tremendous this year.

This backline would ooze speed and class and the forward pack has a good mix of young and old, brawn and toughness. One big weakness is depth, but there are a few other quality players that others have mentioned in this thread left out.

Don't agree. Playing two out is massively different from 3 out - that's why clubs are reluctant to do it. If we need to stick an Ablett or a Whitehead in the centres then we may as well give up. We weren't undone there in the WC with Cudjoe and Watkins. Shenton deserves his shot in the squad. See that Whitehead is your new Second Row convert now Ellis has retired :)

ellis was just my ploy to counter greg inglis lol

but yeah some 2nd rowers, not all, should/could be centers...like whitehead....or luke lewis...or simon mannering...mobile,intelligent,backrowers who are able to split defences with footwork or a offload aswell has being super solid in defence...which is why i always wanted gaz ellis up against GI...horses for courses and all that..

my worry with shenton is hes been knocked out by the aussies and they'll target him again...i just feel its a negative we don't need.....as good as hes been this season i just feel abit...hhhmmm about him

whitehead is more of a attacking threat than shenton

If you want attacking threat, play Percival from Saints. He's young and raw but runs the best lines I have seen in a long time and knows how to use his winger. I'd be tempted to take a punt on both him and Joe Burgess looking out to RLWC17.

Sarginson. Didn't think much of him at first, but he looks better each time I see him. He looks like an athelete, and that's the type of centre that will trouble aus

Where is Roby?
Needs surgery apparently, as does McIlorum so we're a little thin on the ground at hooker.

McNamara continues his weird obsession with all things Australian by picking Mike Cooper in the squad despite at least 5 better options at prop.

Shame S. Burgess couldn't have one last England Hoorah. If he'd played their pack would have looked even better (but is still very good).

How has Joel Tomkins gone since he returned to league?

England has had a very good team for a long while now,Australia doesn't get enough credit(if any credit at all) for beating these guys, people think because England ain't winning World Cups and Four Nations that they are bad, they have been a very very good team for ages.
