On Sen radio.
Only caught a bit of it.
Said he is excited with what he seen with the young players.
You can listen to the whole interview with Jimmy Smith via the SEN app in the podcasts. Definitely excited at working with the youngsters coming through & gave K Flanno a wrap but said Flanno is currently doing player year reviews so has not had any significant discussions. Didnt give too much away, commented on the number of injuries to important players that had an impact on the finish to the year. I think its a great appointment but time will tell.

I like this appointment. We all love to mock his commentary but he’s actually quite astute in most of his observations once he’s cleaned his nether regions off after talking about Cleary.
Hopefully he brings a healthy mix of wisdom and niggle to the playing group. New ideas can’t possibly hurt.
I’d like to see a full clean out with assistants - a new defensive coach with new ideas would be good. The old defensive ideas sure aren’t working.

Yes a great signing. It sounds like his role at Manly was a part-time (2 days per week) "positions" coach. Not sure how much we can deduce from that in terms of the influence he would have had. The Dragons role is very much a full time assistant coach role, covering all areas not specifically attack or defense. He said it was the additional responsibility he wanted to take on so I see this as his biggest role to date in terms of his coaching career.

He had a very good understanding of our playing roster as well as the attributes of the young players coming through. He obviously has a lot of respect for Flanagan so I think his appointment is a really important one.

I don't think we will be getting any top players in for 2026 at this late stage, more experienced bodies and promoted juniors I expect. So any changes to results will need to come from coaching and the continued development of our juniors. Whether this is enough to get us into the 8, let's hope so.

The big roster changes will need to be for the 2027 season, and that starts with discussions in November. Having a high profile guy like Ennis come on board 2 months before the window opens might help some of those discussions, he seems to be on close terms with people right across the NRL.

I'd say that the big rroster changes need to happen in 2026, mainly because the new clubs will be didding for players for the 2027 season. We need to get the best we can now and then lock in the ones we want to keep long- term in mid 2026.

Shock horror. Flanno's mate is backing Kyle!!

Where's the mention of the actual attacking halfback this club deserves?
Oh... worry about that later as long as there's jobs for the boys.

When will we shift the culture at this club? Do we actually want to change things? Are we hungry or content?

Zero mention of both Daniel Atkinson and the team’s kicking game; that was surprising and disappointing. Hopefully that’s getting done behind closed doors.
