Ah yes, you could be right there Ghoulies.

Question. If that is true, how does releasiing Ennis alleviate Illawarra's cap problems?

I don't think he'd come under the Dragons cap either, not 100% sure but I think the Broncos would just make up the difference between his Dragons contract and his new contract, if there is any, and only that portion would count towards the Broncos cap.

As he's not going to be one of the Dragons top 25 I don't think thier contribution counts against thier cap.

It's not true. It's under Brisbane's cap. St Gilla might pay some of the actual money to Ennis, but it will count under Bronco's cap no theirs.

Correct me if I'm wrong - won't a fair portion of his contract still come under the Dragons cap?

While the Dragons may be forced to pay some of Ennis' contract that money will not count towards his cap as he will not be playing for the Dragons, nor will he be in their squad of 25.

[Edit: Looks like a few people got in before me]

Nah ALL of Ennis' wages count under Bronco's cap, regardless of who's paying him.

That is true, I believe all of Ennis' wages will count towards the Bronco's cap, even what is being paid for by the Dragons, but none of his contract will count towards the Dragons cap.

So the Broncos, with all their internationals and Origin players had room under their cap, is that right?

They must have, or they will need to off load some of their own players to make space in the salary cap for Ennis.

Ahh, I see.

I'd just been thinking of the Firman situation at the Cowboys where his contract had been paid in full by the Roosters.

Interesting move going to the Broncos. They have a number of hookers assuming they stay injury free.

The balance between Ennis's Dragon's contract and what the Bronco's pay will come out of the Dragons cap for 2006.. I can guarentee that.. However if the Bronco's pay Ennis as much or more than his current contract then he will not count against the Dragons contract..

The posts saying that it won't come out of the Dragons cap as he won't be playing for them is garbage.. On that basis clubs could cut contracted players willy nilly and not worry about them counting against their cap in future as of course once cut they would no longer be playing for them..

The way I thought this cap issue worked is:

Ennis gets paid all of what his contract is worth a year, but it wont count towards Dragons cap.
