I don't think this as been posted already.

The Rugby League European Federation, who held a Staff Meeting in Bradford over the weekend, has unveiled the competitive representative structure for the summer of 2010.

Underpinning the rugbyleague.com European Championship - which will be held predominantly in France, who have negotiated the broadcast rights, and will feature Ireland, Scotland and Wales with the winners winning a place in the 2011 Four Nations Tournament - there will be an expanded European Shield, a European Bowl and a new Middle East and North Africa Championship

The European Shield will feature six nations in two groups spilt West and East with Germany, Serbia and the Czech Republic contesting the former and Russia, Ukraine and Latvia the latter.

In the European Bowl, Malta, Norway and Belgium will go head to head while the MENA Championship scheduled for Dubai in October, which will build on the success of the recent under 16’s tournament and a 9’s competition for under 14’s scheduled for Lebanon in May, could feature four nations.

Fixture dates for the three strata should be confirmed by mid-April.

In addition, Italy – who are concentrating on setting up a six team domestic structure – will play USA in a one-off home international on 4th July and Germany will face Holland on 18th June in Heidelberg, the night before their annual invitation international 9’s and will send a University side to Catalonia on 21st July.

In response to the continued growth of the sport outside of the European framework, the RLEF will continue to take the lead for all development activity in the Northern hemisphere.

Germany will not be playing Holland on the 18th of June at all. A Heidelberg/Kaiserslautern/Frankfurt Rep team aims to play a Dutch side made up of young guys from probably 2 teams. But this has still to be definately confirmed!

Hmm. Good that they have eventually got something sorted, and great news about the MENA comp especially. Hopefully a Plate competition will be organised for the other nations, but if not I'm sure that they will arrange friendlies with a view to being involved in RLEF tournaments next year. I see the Kazakhstan ladies team are touring the UK at the moment, so maybe we'll hear something from them too. Italy seem to be alright doing their own thing for now.

Nootdorp Musketiers and Capelle Spartans are looking to send teams down to the Heidelberg Nines and hope to put a "combination" of their younger Dutch players out on the friday evening for a full 13 game.
It was (we were told) going to be Germany Development v Nederland Development but who matters what the teams are called as long as the kids get on the field and enjoy it.

Good to have something concrete to look at instead of rumours, and that looks like a decent format for the competing teams.

I do hope Catalonia can arrange a few more friendlies, I have high hopes for them in the long term.

So....the Serbian appeal against the Italians DID fall into the too hard basket ( ie - no announcement of a result , or mention of a decision )...So why arent the Italians included in ANY Euro Comp , shield , bowl , plate , fork , knife or spoon ????

I think the official answer is because they chose not to be.

So , are we to assume that no decision is likely re appeal , ....italy will not contest the next world cup , or, the games in 2010 mean nothing as far as world cup qualification is concerned ?

No Italy or Estonia?

I think we can assume that the reduction in the number of teams in the Euro Cup means a decision is now moot as Italy's win has not produced any gain for them. 2010 games don't count towards World Cup qualification for anyone. We'll see what the Euro section of the qualifiers are like in 2011. It seems likely they will include Lebanon, Russia, Serbia and Italy with the winner getting a place in 2013. The other place will go to USA, Jamaica, South Africa or Japan. But this is just speculation.
