Eventually Hayne will be our 6.

Anderson was ahead of his time. Hayne will eventually be our 6 and be like the great Darren Lockyer and be the best player in the world from the 5/8th position (I'm not saying that Lockyer is now but he was for many years).

Hayne just needs to realise this and in due course again take the challenge.

Probably won't happen this year but I think it is inevitable.

I just don't see why you would want Hayne at 6. Like he virtually plays at 6 during attack and then gets protected from having to make 30 tackles a game in defence.

Agree with Ben... Hayne plays the same roaming roal of 5'8th in attack currently without the defensive commitments. Plus he is so damaging from his kick returns why move him. Lockyer was moved at the exact time Hunt came through and it suited the Broncos club at the time.

He won't be around after this contract I reckon. Its Union or AFL for him.

He has signed for another four years...and in my opinion, is worth entitled to be the Eels highest paid player..because he is the bloke who can turn things around for the Club.
Ricky Stuarts article in todays Sunday Telegraph should be compulsory reading for every Rugby League supporter, especially followers of the Eels....
In my opinion, he is spot on. (And I am no great fan of Ricky Stuart as a coach. Loved him as a player, but not as a coach)

If Hayne plays 5/8th, I'll really feel sorry for him. Why he has to give up a spot where he excels in, just to help a team or players that are incapable of performing to their own potential.

The talent is already there for the current crop to excel or be very good at the positions they already play in, Hayne should be able to stay in his best spot and shine and shouldn't be crucified simply because other players are underperforming.

 Sounds something Jack Gibson would say, did he say it???? If not, well done Parra Pete.

Jack probably did say it....

Hayne is barely 22 and in 4 long years any number of new precocious youngsters may emerge or experienced statesmen may come off-contract. No need to jump the gun let the boy continue to develop his fullback skills, notably his defensive positional skills and injecting himself on the 5th tackle (both kicking and chasing).

Now, assuming Anthony Mitchell can cut first grade mustard (as he is slowly eased into the team as our long term 9, if not another player will suffice) I would be more interested in developing a ruck combination with Hayne and Mitchell (or K Keating etc). Smith and Slater together are devastating against tiring forward packs, particularly down the shortside. A Hayne/Halfback combination ala Slater/Cronk would be great as well but we can only work with what we have.

In the short term if things continue poorly the worst performing half -> bench or wenty and luke burt -> halves. Still a ways from there mind you.

Right now we need to attack with runners in numbers, push hard off the line in defence and most importantly hold the pigskin. If we score first against Canberra we will win by at least 12.

Is it his best position ? maybe he is better suited to 5/8 where he basically would be our main play maker / leader , he has shown the skills to be able to do it. He can kick, put players into holes and has a great running game. And you never know what he is going to do, a great skill for a 5/8. He does all this better then any other eels player. Plus his positional play at fullback is not always the best. Anyhow not to sure where he should play.

omg i agree. The state we are playing atm Hayne to five eighth!!!, and burt to fullback . Or during attack hayne five eighth and defense he goes fb?

robson/mortimer ( f**ken we sign them to waste our salary cap money and to waste halves in the game, we could of got Tim Smith for 50k and it will save us like 500k+ in our salary cap!!!!!!!! -note Tim smith said he would take a paycut to come back to nrl for 50k a season if he had to- what a bargain! - for 500k+ we could of like signed some superstar like thurston or someone ffs!!!!! mayb im overexaggerating but just imagine who we could sign with this amount of money. MONEY THROWN IN THE BIN WITH TWO DUMB SIGNINGS)

Stupid osbourne, i asked him during the round 26 game (against penrith) afterparty at the parra club if he would sign Tim smith because it was on newspaper recently that his coming back to nrl and
he replied " narh mate, no way"
Then i said its only 50k for a season!!! and no reply...= owned

Our halves aren't acting anything near how a half should b played. Awful kicking game , pointless passing game- doesnt set players into hole, no leadership or guidance in attack at all, jst a simple pass which makes its very easy for the opposition to defend. I mean what next... the list goes on. Name something they have done right this season except for robson and his D. ONE THING, NOTHING. Seriously just dreadful ! Nothing creative , simply jst plain plain and plain. Might as well take em off and same things will happen.

We cant always rely on hayne for his five eighth play during attack, when we got halves for a reason. We need to let him play his fb position to add him for a overlap or an inside ball just like how billy slater is playing in the storms- he gets to play his fb position fluently and by doing this so, everyone can play their positions, instead of wasting a fb and placing him to play five eighth.

HAYNE TO FIVE EIGHTH !!!!

HAYNE TO FIVE EIGHTH !!!!

Another bonus moving hayne to 5/8 is burt can play fullback. Burt is a good kicker and can set up attacking plays, plus he has a lot of expereince. So moving Hyane gives us another attacking option and would take pressure of Haynes kicking game.

The question for me will be....... Will he have another dummy-spit when being moved?

It should happen this week. If not, Burt to 5/8. If we try to move Mateo there then we're looking at being short in the forwards department.

Also, Lockyer isn't still just the best 5/8 - he's also still the best player in the game. The only other players with comparable football brains are Kimmorley and Thurston.
