North Queensland have signed fullback Shannon Gallant for the next two NRL seasons after he was granted a release by Wests Tigers.
The 23-year-old had agreed to a new deal with the Tigers for 2010 but asked for a release because he felt he would get more opportunities with the Cowboys.
"In weighing it up, Wests Tigers have got Tim Moltzen, Blake Lazarus, Mitch Brown, Arana Taumata plus exciting young Toyota Cup fullback Jake Mullaney and another great prospect in Jordan Kahu coming from Keebra Park that can fill the fullback role," Gallant said.
"My best opportunity for myself and my family is with the North Queensland club.
"I approached Wests Tigers on compassionate grounds to release me from my fulltime contract next year.
"It was a tough decision as the Wests Tigers have looked after me and made me a good offer for 2010 but I feel like I need a new start with the Cowboys."
Gallant will provide further cover for the Cowboys, who are set to be without regular fullback Matt Bowen (knee) until May.

why cant sheens see like everyone that moltzens positioning at fullback has cost us at least 2 games this year?

Doesn't matter anyway because they won't sign who we need, a quality front rower.

Not a lot of decent front-rowers going around these days it seems. Not a lot of quality halfbacks either. But if you want to buy a second rower they seem to be a dime a dozen.

If you REALLY need a good prop for next year, you'll have to sign a promising youngster and beef him up over the offseason or look overseas - maybe ESL players or even South African RU players. There aren't any decent props off-contract in Oz or NZ.

You Tigers fans, what's the opinion on Gallant????

I only saw him in the game at Leichardt against us and it looks like he is quite speedy and has some balls.

Would love to be a fly on the wall at his first training session up here "Shannon, this is Carl........"

Good luck Shannon - you deserved better than you ever got at the Tigers, easily our number one fullback even if master coach didn't agree - he probably saw your long term future in the back row.

our forward pack hasnt gone 2 bad dis yr actually.

Yeah I knew you would say something like that.

Would you rather us have a very good forward pack or a forward pack that 'isn't that bad'.

We have enough second rowers but we need another quality front rower.

Ofcourse Sheens with all his wisdom will buy a second rower from the NSW or QLD Cup, or sign another winger.

He'll do a fine job replacing Bowen.

Very similar styles, maybe just a small step down from him.

You need a prop, bar Galloway you dont have much really. Skandalis went ok when required but i am assuming he is retiring and Gibbs and Payten arent all that flash. Need someone to helo Galloway and Ellis in the yardage department

As if Carl didn't fall in love with the little bloke the moment Shannon fired up at him. They'll be the best of mates. Shannon won't need to fight his own battles up there, Webb will come running.

f**k, f**k, f**k, f**k, f**k, f**k, f**k, f**kity f**k.

Useless f**king wankers.

We buy Mitch Brown and Geoff Daniella, probably paying overs in the process, and let Mighty Mouse go, probably because we pffered him a pittance?

f**king merkins.

Good luck Shannon, you deserve it. The Cowboys have got a good'n...
