Fantasy Team Game

Time for some mid-season fun to see who would we, as armchair coaches and critics, rather have in our squad instead of who we do have. A bit of a fantasy team game. The idea is to pick someone to replace each position in our top 17 with someone from another team that you think would be a better option than who we have now, or you can leave the current player there.

The Rules:
1. Can only pick from teams below us on the ladder (why would a player above us want to move?)
2. Can only pick a replacement who played in the same position last round
3. Cannot move the player from our 17 to another position. If you replace them, they are gone from the squad
4. You need to consider the difference in potential cost so you cannot end up way over a potential salary cap figure

We will do 1 position at a time, based on Round 14 teams, and matched against BA's top 17 (assuming everyone for us is fit and available).

Fullback:
Parra Player: Bevan French

Options to pick from:
Tuivasa-Sheck (Warriors)
Jack Wighton (Raiders)
Will Hopoate (Dogs)
Jarryd Hayne (Titans)
Cody Walker (Souths)
James Tedesco (Tigers)
Dane Gagai (Knights)

Go for it and remember, it is just for fun.

Im gonna cheat the cap - but not leave any evidence of it like our previous numptys

Oh wait ....
You realise these comments are the minutes so you have just gone on record that you will cheat the cap... just like our previous numptys :D

If we have cap space, RTS then Tedesco.
Decision on Gagai would depend on make up of rest of team.
This interesting position though given Cody Walker would be the only one there remotely close to what French is earning

Wighton might be on similar to French, but yeah probably only Walker.
Which begs the question, if Walker and Wighton were the only choices in the price range, would you swap Bevan for either of them?

In real life, no.
In fantasy league (I haven't looked at points), you'd probably go Wighton.
If I were starting a team today, had no affiliations to anyone, all 3 were equally willing to sign with my team, within same price range and they were my only choices, then none of them would be the first player signed. Walker is a no for me, but Wighton & French would essentially depend on who was in front of them. If I had attacking flair in the front line then I'd go Wighton just to run straight off those players plus he comparably better size to make up for the probably defensive and rucking deficiencies. If I had some plodders in attack, I'd take French obviously.
Plus I highly doubt Wighton is on as much as Walker let alone French. He was an Origin possibility at one point

I don't understand the reasoning for not allowing to pick players from clubs above us on the ladder. Surely players above us on the ladder would consider moving for more money?

Why can't we replace a position (i.e. French for this example) with a player in our own team already and then have that position available later in the exercise?

Because if they are already in our squad than BA has picked them in the spot he thinks is best suited already.

And the idea of the game is to see if there are any players we could get to improve our squad without paying overs. Getting someone from a top 8 side to come to Parra has always meant paying overs (at least for the last 7 years).

I disagree. I think BA is actually choosing his best 17 players and finding a spot for them. Are you suggesting that if French wasn't here that Gutherson would still play right centre last weekend?

The issue with not "paying overs" because it will cost us more might work for a position like fullback where we have French there, but what about the position of left centre with Jennings? Who's to say that we couldn't get a left centre as good or better than Jennings from a team above us on the ladder for less than what Jennings is costing us?

From that group of players to choose from, and no salary cap constraints....Tedesco. Easily.

I can't believe anyone would say differently.

If Witchy was picking a fantasy team he would still have Timmy Mannah as his starting front rower and captain.
