Favourite Parramatta Memories

1. I concur with a previous post about the 1998 final against North Sydney at parramatta stadium. (From memory), we were down 12-0 and Jason Smith had been knocked out. We were the underdogs in the game, though never gave up.
One highlight was Stuart Kelly making a break on the 20 metre line, with David Penna running the last 30 metres to score a try.

great game

The three in a row undefeated run in 1993 was priceless. To draw against Penrith, beat Cronulla and then upset brisbane was as good a feeling as winning the Grand Final. To go the Parra Stadium the folliowing week in front of 23000 fans was even better (even if we lost). When John fearnly kept running deep in our territory, we all got up and cheered (even though he got penalised), and the adrenaline was pumping for the first time in years.

we won all 3 games first up in 93, then went to Parra and lost 12-10 to Dragons, i wa sthere, and whilst we lost we played great, Mahon was brillant at fb

6. I guess that more generally, my favourite memories are those when we have been underdogs, yet won the game. I am 29, which means I was only 7 when Parra last won a Grand Final. I had to endure the dark days of 1987 to 1995 in my 'formative years'. However, the really, really dark days (1991-1995) are the ones I love the most as I was a teenager in that period.

Same. I absolutely love that era. Crnkovich, Blair, King, the Sparrow, Mahon, Godbraith...damn, those victories were like mannah from heaven when they came around.

And the major victories are some of the most special moments in our history. The Poms was massive and Brisbane at the opening of ANZ...those are two days I will never forget.

1)

9) John Simon kicking three field goals against the Broncos to get us home. Those Smith vs Bennett games were amazing.
Sorry to be nit-picking HJ but which game did he do this? I'm sure in was 1997 v Manly at Brookie when we won 17-10 . he kicked three field goals and scored a runaway try - and possibly kicked a goal or two as well????

I've gotta say that Norths game where we punished them in the 2nd half is one I never forget .... we were dudded by a really bad refs call just before half time and I think it got everyone fired up .... there is only 1 other game i remember parra playing with such ferocity - one against cronulla which we won 10-nil i think

I think that Norths semi was 1998 and the cronulla game you spark of was also earlier that year . It was in a sequence of three smashings the boys put on in a row , v Canterbury , Canberra and Cronulla , i think. The cronulla score was something like 20 or 22 nil

yeah - maybe it was 22-0 .... they smashed a cronulla team that was known for smashing other teams at the time

Lost v Drags 14-12 - were leading with a Joe Bartolo try for 12-10 , then let in a try at the death

The whole 1983 season. My younger brothers (now both deceased) and I were ardent Parra fans - went to games, watched on telly, talked about Parra during the week, etc. Two months after the `82 Grand Final, my youngest brother drowned at Palm Beach. Well; it sounds corny, but throughout the `83 season it was as if the Parramatta team was going to war for our family; and it gave us something to focus on while we came to grips with what had happened. And when they brought home the trophy in September (against Manly) it was like they`d done that for our brother, Phil. Ahh, rugby league is sometimes more than just a game.

it was 1999 at Parra stadium, in the wet and Schifcofske scored a brilliant try from his own grubber kick.

Opening of QE II Stadium against Brisbane, and the game vs the Poms mid week at Parramatta are two that immediately spring to mind.

Yeah I think it was in 97. Up in Brissie, was it? (I'm pretty sure it was cause my memory seems like a tv memory and not an attendance memory)

From what i remember the kicking in that game was tactical brilliance. They knew when to push it out and when to keep it in so play kept rolling. Masterful game.

Your right, Walford scored a length of the field try to win it after Bartolo scored.

Mahon that day was brillant as well as buettner, Buettner however missed a penalty right in front which would've made it 8 nil to us at halftime, it was directly in front lol

That game was the 1998 Semifinal at ANZ stadium Brisbane when the eels won 15-10 . Stu Kelly scored a 60m try where he ran away from Lockyer, and Simon kicked a field goal right at the end. And you're right , his tactical kicking that day was peerless.

That try by Kelly in the 1998 semi final against Brisbane was magical. Stu turned on the accelerator and blew Lockyer away. Wonderful try.

From memory he scored a great try in the 2000 finals and scored another great try against Penrith.

Another memorable game for me was the 2000 final against the Roosters when we hammered them after being the underdogs. I was in line with Vaeliki when he toed the ball ahead after Luke Phillips failed to pick it up after knocking it on - jumped up and down cheering!!! great game and the sign of things to come with the baby eels. The Roosters, Penrith and then Brisbane games were all great performances by the boys.

full credit goes to Jason Bell for that try, he created the opportunity..

From memory he scored a great try in the 2000 finals and scored another great try against Penrith.

alot of people would disagree, but I personaly think that "stupid" made a more valuble contribution to this club on the field than Tahu did.

I loved Stupid....he was tops.

Mine is the Preliminary Final in 2001. Not such a great game, beating a pretty ordinary Brisbane team but after living through all the lean years and then 3 near misses on the bounce we were finally back in the Grand Final. Sure it didn't turn out so great, if this was worst Parra memories the following week would feature in just about every post, but at that moment we were back were we belonged and for th first time in a long time we wouldn't be sitting back on rand Final day as neutral supporters.

The other one is the Semi vs Norths in 98....that game was brutal. I'm pretty sure that was the game Jimmy told the ref after a fight that he "smashed him" but I could be wrong.

If you don't mind - can I add a moment from Parramatta that I respect? It's not necessarily one night I enjoyed, I was at Parramatta Stadium, my Roosters were kings, Parramatta was having an up and down season, but your Eels were never fazed.

Luke Burt and Eric Grothe were inspiring, the days before Hayne and Inu were first graders. We were completely outplayed. We showed hard slogs early in the match but Parramatta just wouldn't go away and kept hurting us on the scoreboard.

I couldn't help but tip my hat to the Eels that night.

I was accused of being drunk that night...... what a game! I was totally sober and drinking in the atmosphere. If it is the game I remember Hindy was backing up from Origin, The Roosters had a few in backing up as well but we were tipped to not even come close.

We (the then ill-fated Parramaniacs) had been abused all night by one particular lady dressed in Roosters colours....... from the moment she walked through the gate it was on. As the score rose and the Roosters fans realised it was a lost cause she stood and left to get an early train.

A good portion of the crowd on the hill started singing goodbye to her which pissed her off even more to the point she then wanted to fight everyone on her way out....

Security escorted her out..... and we sang louder. Which funnily enough was one of the few times the people that were in the Parramaniacs actually sang. :sarcasm:

John Fearnley keeping Mick Hancock from scoring under the posts on a 70 metre run is one of my favourite, yet bittersweet, moments. He kept pace with him, though I doubt Hancock was at full pace, and pressured him enough to have him score out wide.

Plenty of great moments in the early nineties where winning games was so difficult. The boys that did play may have been beaten but they tried hard.
