Celebrate the climax of the 2014 footy year with ABC NewsRadio as we proudly present The Festival of the Boot - a two pronged affair covering both the Australian Football League (AFL) and National Rugby League (NRL) Grand Finals.
As always, H.G. sums it up best.

The 2014 football season has been a year of suspensions, high hits, turtling tackles, going the grope and chicken wings.

The season has not been without its critics, but quality football shone through the distracting disappointment.

This year's banner for the Boot is: 'Team Australia, Operation Sink the Slipper'.

The Boot Part One - the AFL Grand Final from 2pm AEST, Saturday 27 September, live from the MCG.

The Boot Part Two - the NRL Grand Final, 7pm ADST, Sunday October 5, live from the Olympic Stadium.

Rampaging Roy Slaven, a man who played 347 games for the Lithgow Shamrocks, is calling the action. And why not? He turned out at the representative level on 77 occasions and was winner of the Cyril Duffy Medal on a record breaking nine occasions.

Joining Roy behind the ABC NewsRadio card table on the sideline is H.G. Nelson. This very safe pair of hands, wearing the heavy duty surgical gloves, will bring you every bump, thump and dump of both Boots. Both will be talking extensively about on paddock operational matters.

Roy Slaven summed up this year's Boot with the following fascinating observation:

"Team Australia is the side they all want to be in, because it is chockablock full of grunt and poke with not a pillow in sight. Just ask the Brick with Eyes".

H.G. Nelson believes "2014 could be the best Festival ever. With everyone rooting for Team Australia, the nation is united as never before, under the banner of the Boot".

Festival of the Boot Live is exclusive to ABC NewsRadio - on air, online, on digital radio and the ABC Radio app. Find your ABC NewsRadio frequency by visiting abc.net.au/newsradio or follow #ABCFOTB on ABC NewsRadio Twitter and Facebook.

Even if your team doesn't win the big one,to be called by Roy & HG in a GF is something to always savoir.

Listened to the first half of the Boot Part One. Too pissed off to bother watching/listening to the second half.

OK...now if the call is going to be digital, your all going to be spending a small amount of time with the sync as last weeks ALF call was 30 behind Roy & HG's call.

So try these fixes from 7:00 p.m. during Roy & HG's pre-match commentary.

1/ IF you have pay TV,turn the FOXTEL Tunes with your remote which is the left button next to the middle right at the top of the remote. Now scroll to ABC NewsRadio and see how this goes.

2/ If you have A.M.radio,tune into ABC NewsRadio on your frequency band.Do the same for F.M. and then try digital if you have it.(please note that one or more of these suggestions will not work out perfectly.)

3/ The one that I haven't tried, which very well might be the silver bullet is from the ABC NewsRadio website and try the call from there.

4/ If all fails and you do have Foxtel, simply record the ABC NewsRadio from FoxTunes to a DVD,then after the call, play it on your computer in sync with Foxsports replay that same night or during the week replays.Or DVD record the game for a later sync.

If you can't see to get the hang of the commentary whilst trying all these tests wait until the game starts and go through the suggestions.I do realise it will take away the buzz off the kick-off for most, but once you get it going, you'll enjoy it.

Last night was just as good as any call they have done.

As usual they pick out One player to really give it to,& last nights deserved player was T Rex.

They said the half time talk to T Rex would go something like this.

Ball.
Hold
Keep.
Don't drop..

& they didnt think using the word "possession" was a good idea.He wouldn't understand

keep it simple

That is exactly what i was shouting down the TV at T-Rex ( suppose it is his short arms/claws ?)

I have been looking for this as a podcast - nothing as of yet...

There was a replay at 1pm this afternoon on the Grandstand digital channel. They did seem to hone in on T Rex, implying he fell asleep before he offloaded the ball early on.

Another comment that I noted was in the lead up, when Roy (about an Origin match I think) stated that "they played like a team that had Braith Anasta in it".
