What was the difference between these 2 incidents???
www.heraldsun.com.au/.../fev.../story-e6frf96x-1225778329231 -
Beside's The Alleged Sexual Assualt. Both Drunk at offical functions. Both got in trouble with the law. Yet 1 is plasters over the media and misses 5 weeks and 1 gets $10k fine (about the 5th offence) earns $850k a year so it's nothing

I think this could open up the NRL to legal action both VERY similar and how can the NRL Justify suspension in the future when a similar event gets a light punishment.

If I was a Manly offical I would want compenstation. Don't get me wrong I hate Manly but I doesn't make it any less unfair

Compensation for what exactly and on what grounds. Hosting a season opener that brought the game into disrepute?

I think the comparisons to AFL are tiring. Yes we all know the negative media coverage that Rugby League gets is skewed but why would we want to handle these incidents the same way as the AFL.

Brett Stewart's as dumb as a box of rocks and deserved every minute of suspension that he got, just for all the bad press he brought to the game before the season had even started. He's not a victim in any way whatsoever. People need to let that idea go.

No No both alleged assaulted a girl but I said besides because Brett hasn't been proven guilty yet so might not be guilty

Well The Awards for for the best Player is different how???? Still an offical function. Don't get me wrong he deserved it if guilty. But Fevola falshed and groupped a chick. That may or may not be what Stewart did only time will tell.

Compo could be not having a STAR player for 5 games. When other get a $10k fine is adequate

Are you not understanding, thats a different sport. I think the last thing the NRL needs to worry about doing is treatly players consistenly with AFL. That would be geniused.

What disturbed me is the bias in media coverage. Sky News replayed the footage in every bulletin this morning, and the presenters had a giggle, one even going so far as to say "gee he's an Aussie bloke"... if an RL player did the same they'd be subject of plenty of scrutiny and a fine and possible suspension from their club.

It's utterly ridiculous.

That said, it doesn't excuse anyone's actions.

To think there isn't a double standard in media interpretation's of our players vs AFL players is ridiculous.

At the same time, i also agree with the sentiment that the players shouldn't be f**king up in the first place.

Sky News must be run by Victorians. they're always like that and rarely report anything about AFL players

send them news articles even and they still won't mention it or will reply and lie saying they did

Totally agree, but the media misrepresentation is sickening.

Wow 1 person. We had it over ALL media.

The obsession is NRL is run by a media organisation yet get shafted every single time no matter what the incident is

Sunrise had it as their top news item and then made it their top commentary for the day - ignoring the AFL Grand Final build up and talked about how big a f**king tool Fevola is and how Carlton should dump his arse permanently.

Bourbon Bec and her brother (who is a Carlton fan) were both as pious as usual on the subject and said he'd had enough chances and deserved to be sacked as he was a disgrace to the game and was constantly dragging the game through the dirt.

They said that a fine by Carlton wasnt going to wash this time

We'll see if they're right

the problem here is that people are comparing league to afl...it should be the other way round. afl should be comparing to league and saying "why are we gutless and do nothing about this CRIME"

no room in either sport and rugby league has come out on top imo

My mistake didnt read that in what I skimmed and assumed from your post that the assault was the only difference. Apologies.
