Eh
Thought they would be straight into the actual NSW Cup

Will be a big boost for their chances in the 2021 RLWC

Great news and long-awaited. Well done Petero and Fiji - and awesome to see the Australian Government support this financial as a foreign / pacific aid project. it was their funding that got this over the line in the end.

Hopefully Fiji and PNG really kick on to teir 1 status now that they have good domestic setups, a full-time team playing at a high quality level and then (hopefully in the future) a production line of NRL stars that are only eligible for them.

Everything is truly in place for Fiji to become the 4th strongest RL playing nation above the likes of Tonga, France and PNG etc.

Hope RM Cup teams have enough money to fly their squad to Fiji on next to nothing from the NRL grant wise

Credit to the ARLC as well. Gov lobbying got this over the line....

If youre wondering why this kind of thing never happened before, you can thank Gallop for not putting together a gov relations department

Just imagine where the game would be if this had happened 10 years ago or even 5??

Better late than never though. Fiji will become 2nd only to NZ for exporting RL talent to the NRL.

Unless we actually sort out the PNG situation in which case it will become number 2 (or even number 1 long term if you include the ESL). The potential is huge.

That's not true. The Government relations department was added in 2007 just before the Centenary year celebrations.

Two of the four staff still in the department were appointed by Gallop.

https://www.nrl.com/news/2019/10/11/new-fiji-team-to-join-nswrl-competition-in-2020/

The NSWRL has confirmed a Fiji team will join the Ron Massey Cup next season with a view to eventually playing in the Canterbury Cup NSW.

The new team, known as the Kaiviti Silktails, will join the competition in 2020 with a view towards boosting the development of the game in Fiji and provide a new pathway for Fijian players to rise to the NRL.

Former Australia and Fiji Test star Petero Civoniceva was a driving force behind the bid and was present when the news was announced ahead of Friday's clash between the Australian Prime Minister's XIII and the Fiji Prime Minister's XIII in Suva.

Great to see it finally all announced. I look forward to catching the Kaiviti Silktails in the Ron Massey Cup next year and the Canterbury Cup the year after.
