BLUES halfback Mitchell Pearce has promised to exact revenge for Billy Slater's blatant elbow to his face in Origin II, declaring: "Hopefully I'll get him back."
The cheap shot went unpunished by officials, but has all but guaranteed a brutal decider at ANZ Stadium on July 17.
Slater's elbow continues an unsavoury rap sheet for the fullback, who has been accused of kneeing opponents, high tackles, jump kicks and late hits over the years.
Earlier this season, Slater launched what appeared to be a karate kick at young Bulldogs prop Dave Klemmer as the Storm fullback fielded a bomb.
As well as onfield violence, Slater is a world-class sledger.
He famously had to apologise to Newcastle hard man Cory Paterson during the 2010 season. Slater targeted Paterson - who had waged a long battle with depression - with this grubby verbal attack: "Go and have a cry in your room."
The Maroons No.1 was up to his usual standard during Origin II, telling Pearce after the elbow: "One-all c ... "
Despite being placed on report, he was neither sin-binned nor charged because the match review committee deemed the contact "accidental".
Wearing a shiner and four stitches as he left the ground, Pearce confirmed that Slater had also sledged him straight after connecting with the elbow

"That's the ruling, so hopefully in game three if we elbow someone back it's play-on," Pearce said. "I don't think he is (a dirty player) at all but I don't think he likes getting hit hard.
"That's what he said, so I'll have to make 2-1 in the last game. He got me on the ground when I was not looking. Hopefully I'll get him back.
"He (Slater) is a competitor and a great player. Things like that happen."
Blues skipper Paul Gallen said: "It certainly wasn't accidental. Let's not be silly."
Pearce was nonplussed about Slater escaping suspension, but hoped a precedent had been set for future incidents.
"That's how it is. I didn't think there was much in it," he said. "If that's fair play it has to go both ways.
"There were a lot of calls tonight with refs and momentum swings.
"If we go back to game three, it has to go the same way."
NSW coach Laurie Daley was shocked Slater avoided being charged, saying: "I was surprised at Billy's reaction, saying it was one-all. The match review panel obviously thought it was accidental.
"If it was accidental, I don't know why you would be jumping up and saying 'one-all'. If that's what it is, that's what it is. We thought it would have been an offence but obviously it's not. They are the rules."
Asked if Slater was a dirty player, Daley said: "Other people might think or suggest that but he is someone we respect."
Asked if the decision would give NSW more scope for aggression in game three, Daley said: "I would like to think so.
"Everyone knows what the boundaries are.
"They set some hard and fast rules, which I didn't think they abided by, but that's Origin."
Pearce stressed Slater would not have planned the elbow.
"I don't think he would have gone out there and thought he would elbow me," Pearce said.
"But I have nothing against the bloke. He is a great player who has done a lot more in the game than I have.
"He is one of the true greats. But pretty much every player had some niggle at one point."

I would like to think there will be no pay back/revenge because the selectors might select Adam Reynolds instead. Pearce has had 11 goes at origin now and failed to go on with it.

Perhaps Mitchell would be better off working on his kicking game and getting at least ONE repeat set as a result of his kick. I mean all series he has not had one....not even a try assist.
Getting revenge on Billy and losing the series (AGAIN)....what will that achieve?

i dont think the article is about winning the game.

it's about calling out the lowest scumbag to ever grace a football field.

a great player, no doubt. pity he is such a shit of a human being.

If Pearce wants to lash out at players on the ground with swinging arms then that's what he'll cop.

Just another roach having a whinge.

Didnt read about how Myles was going to get back at Gallen after an intentional act....or yet to read how Tate will seek revenge on Merrin for his intentional act. Me thinks Mitchell should say no comment to these journos and worry more about his possible last origin game ever.

This kind of shit is going to cost NSW the series.

QLD is the big fat bully kid in the playground who can get away with murder, captain of the footy team, stealing lunch money yet might only get a detention or two. NSW is the dumb kid who tries to fight and ends up getting suspended. This kind of talk just plays into Mal's hands. All QLD have to do is throw in a few sneaky elbows, face massages, ninja kicks etc and someone from NSW is going to the bin, again. Jut ignore it, concentrate on playing footy. The satisfaction from the looks on the QLD faces after the game when they lost will be far better than the satisfaction gained from landing an awkward punch and spending 10 in the bin, or worse.

Slater is an absolute germ on the football field, but from all reports quite a nice man off it.

i dont know why blues fans would be getting so upset. the best chance of winning the series is pearce being injured and being replaced by a decent player. slater was merely trying to help you

Typical NSW fans in this thread. Instead of rallying behind the team in this instance and labelling Billy Slater what he is, a filthy grub, let’s bag the halfback.

It doesn’t matter who the elbow happened to, the fact is it happened and yet again nothing was done.

What the? Mitchell has had 11 games (going to be 12) to show something, anything....and he has not delivered. You dont think NSW fans would be frustrated with him?

People like Carney, Soward, Campese, Wallace, Mullen.....they all get a handful of games (or even one game) and get dumped yet Mitchell plays series after series after series.

 That's a pretty fair summary I reckon. All the Blues should be thinking about is starting 5,000% better in game 3 and actually giving them a chance of winning the game. Stuff this fighting sh*t, winning is all that matters

this

tbh i'm not surprised at the support he is getting from north of the border, they also revere self confessed woman bashers up there.

I'd rather Pearce focus on getting a half decent ball away to his outside backs.

Getting a bit sick of this tough-man speak from NSW players. NSW went through a period to try and intimidate QLD a few years back and we copped some our biggest ever losses. Just play smart FFS and try and outplay them like in Game 1.
