First Ballot Hall Of Famer

Ive been having an argument with my brother about what makes a FBHOF'er.

We got talking about it over Tom Brady....

But the argument came when when I assumed Charles Woodson was going to be one.

My brother laughed it off... And of course the homer in me just couldn't let it go...

His argument was if Troy Polumalu wasn't considered First Ballot than Woodson shouldn't be...

I strongly disagree but I recognise that my judgement is clouded in this instance...

But I mean come on.... He's the only player in NFL history to have more than 20 sacks and 50 interceptions.

What's the neutral's perspective here?

Depends on the year I guess. I don't think theres any set players that have been earmarked as "must be inducted on first ballot". Of course, there will be guys that will be like Peyton Manning, Tom Brady etc. but for guys that might be on the cusp of those discussions, it really does depend on the year they are eligible.

However, I think the term "first ballot hall of famer" is way too overrated, like it's a special wing of the HOF. HOF is the pinnacle and it should be enough for players to just make the HOF rather than everyone analysing how long it took them to get in.

He'll go pretty close to first ballot, but i agree with Penny, the first ballot stuff is over-rated. Woodson is going to the HOF at some point, that's enough of a statement about the player he is.

When we talk about HOF players the question of how long it took them to get there never arises. For mine its no different if the player did it in his first year of eligibility or if it took him 10 years or more.

I admire the players for two reasons. The first being they played in the NFL and the second, they made the HOF.
