Brad Fittler and Andrew Johns will be among many former Rugby League and Rugby Union greats who will lend their time to fundraising efforts this Saturday, in benefit of Hurricane Sandy.

One of the NY Knights players was severly impacted by the hurricane and the fundraiser is to benefit his family and community.

It is a great show of support of Rugby League world wide that such legends would give their time to help out.

If you are a Rugby League fan in the Tri State area you will not want to miss out on this!

5pm at The Australian, 20 West 38 St NYC

$50 gets beer and appetizers for 3 hours. All money going directly to the cause.

There will also be auctions, lucky door prizes and raffles. As well as alot of stories!

NOWHERE in the rubble on Breezy Point will you find his beloved USA footy jersey.

No, because as New York leaguie Fitzjames Adams explains, what Superstorm Sandy didn't take from his waterfront Queens neighbourhood, the floodwaters did. Then the fires. Adams' home was among the 111 levelled in the aftermath of the natural disaster on the US east coast.

"So it's been tough," the fullback said. "But then, to get a phone call about Andrew Johns ... "

If ever you needed proof that league is an international game, consider that Johns has this week arrived in the Big Apple to help a footballer from the New York Knights - a team that formed years ago in the donated Newcastle jerseys once worn by the new Immortal and his teammates.

The fundraiser was hatched by Johns' former Newcastle teammate Phil Bailey, who now lives in New York and is involved with the Knights.

Bailey found that Johns was heading to Bermuda this month to play in the World Rugby Classic. "There are a few of us going," Johns had said. "Let's make some calls."

And so tomorrow, at The Australian bar in Manhattan, Johns, Brad Fittler, Bryan Fletcher, Matt Dunning and Garrick Morgan will raise funds for a footballer that they've never heard of.
