Sam Tomkins 19yo scrum half for Wigan, not a bad start to his senior career !

Sam has been rated behind Kyle Eastmond over the past few years so it should be interesting to see which player goes the furthest in the game.

Sam Tomkins made his Super League debut against Harlequins at the weekend and was close to Man of the Match. His previous appearances were in the Challenge Cup against Whitehaven and in trail games.

The thing about Tomkins, besides being a talented player is he is a smart player who has a mature head on his shoulders.
A class act on and off the field.

I'd rather see Eastmond move to full back tbh. He's an electrifying runner, with great feet and causes defences problems when running the ball at them, but I haven't seen anything from him to suggest he has the ability to control a game and move his team around the field in an organised, effective manner. Play him at the back and he'll kill teams with his kick returns.

As for Tomkins, tonight was the first time I've seen him and he looked good. Tiny little bugger, with legs like match sticks, but he was targeted in defence and I don't think he missed a tackle all night. Wigan need to be careful with him though, especially at this stage of his career. Playing SL week in and week out will be tough for someone his size, so they'll need to watch him closely for any signs of tiredness and injury.

he does need to hit the gym

but like you said he did'nt miss a tackle all night..

not sure about eastmond to fullback though...i would'nt wish injury on anyone..but we could do with longy doing his ACL or something to give eastmond a prolonged stint @ 7 for st helens

Then you weren't paying attention in the second half lad.

Tomkins came on and really sparked the Warriors with some great breaks.

The first time he made a break it looked like a young Brad Fittler playing. He faked to pass, dropped the shoulder and stepped to avoid the defender and then went straight through the line of defence whilst the defence were still looking to see where the ball was being passed to. Utterly brilliant.

He had a bloody good game against Bradford on the weekend as well. Looks like Wigan have uncovered a real talent. Let's hope he doesn't let it get to his head or burn out in 5 minutes.

I'm looking forward to seeing this lad play in the future.
