Going to be very interesting to see how this all plays out. In one corner you have Perez and co. With Toronto and talk of Montreal, Boston & NY in the RFL structures. Then Moore in the other looking to promote a World Cup and build a pro comp themselves to boost it. Then existing clubs like Jacksonville presumably looking at going it alone?

Let's hope they can all work together without any conflicts of interest to build the game. Exciting times.

How about a 8 team North Atlantic Pro Comp, 2 pools of 4..
2 teams from Canada 6 teams from the states

If it gets to that stage it could be worth going with the Trans-Atlantic model until NA has the resources to go it alone with a minimum 8-10 teams.

How a split North America/Europe league would work I'm not sure.

But as Toronto has shown, a lot can change very quickly. What's to stop a new Eric Perez popping up in Munich, Rome or Moscow?

I don't think that's going to be viable at this early stage. Toronto are riding high on the hopes of making super league soon. That enthusiasm would drain away if it was just going to be a new form of what they have already in the states.
For the future hopefully it will happen but not until they get a bigger supporter base and junior pathways established.

Florida club wants to follow in Toronto's footsteps

Exclusive: An American consortium wants to follow in the path of the Toronto Wolfpack and is seeking entry for a new club into English rugby league.

Love Rugby League understands that a US-based group is planning to launch a professional club in Florida that will play in League 1.

It is likely that the new team will be based in the city of Jacksonville.

That city has a strong rugby league background with the Jacksonville Axeman launched in 2006.

The Axeman are one of the most successful rugby league clubs in the US and currently play in the USARL Championship.

Love Rugby League understands this US-based group has started talks with the RFL on the steps it needs to take to enter a team in League 1.

It is believed the discussions are in the very early stages and any new club would be several years away.

However, this US-based group has contacted prospective players about their venture.

An RFL spokesperson told Love Rugby League: “The RFL has received interest from a number of clubs looking to enter the league structure over the past couple of years. As of today, there are no available places in the structure.”

The Toronto Wolfpack start their first season in League 1 this year. The Canadian club first applied to the RFL in 2014.

This story is inaccurate and misleading. The Axemen have NOT applied to the RFL, have NOT been backed by new investors, and have NOT started any EOI to play in an overseas competition.
As flattering as it is to have a brand that is assumed to be ready for this level, financially the Axemen are a long way from even considering any such idea.
Linking the Axemen to this story is 100% UNFOUNDED!!!

To be fair the story just says the Axemen are a strong club in Florida. I guess people put two and two together.

Yes, but it lead to this :
And this: http://www.thisisamericanrugby.com/2017/01/us-team-interested-in-joining-uk-rugby.html

The Axemen are flattered that their brand is obviously global enough to be the team linked, but some more accurate "reporting" could have been done with a simple call or email. There has certainly not been any approach to the RFL or from an Investment group that is linked to the Axemen.

And now the "nay sayers" are linking the Axemen as a way for them grind their own "Axe" in regards to the state of the game in the UK, and not supporting overseas teams entering the UK competitions.

Be interesting to see what eventuates with this. Toronto started with the same vague rumours that very pretty much rubbished as pie in the sky and understandably so at the time.

It would be amazing for the sport especially given this seems to be a different group to Perez etc who are talking about Montreal, Boston & NY and Moore who is looking at their own pro-league.

Orlando would seem like a good bet of there is any substance to this.

I just hope the Toronto experiment turns out to be an outstanding success. There are many naysayers out there ,particularly from union and AFL, hoping for a complete failure.
