Yeah Im realistic about us this season shadow. We'll come good but it's gonna be a dreadful start to the season.

Our recruitment/retention this season was appalling and someone at the club f**ked up big time. You can't replace a premiership winning 5/8 who kicks goals at over 80% with an 18 year old rookie and then partner him with a 20 year old who had played 5-6 as a started in first grade. We lost a weapon in RTS who broke all kinds of records last year and have a very green 18 year old in there as well.

Pearce stuffed it even more by soon what he did, add in Cordners long term injury with JWH and we a simply to inexperienced.

With those 3 back in the side I have no doubt we'd have 3 wins under our belt.

Every side would struggle with an under 20's spine like ours and no real forwards leaders. No one to blame but ourselves tho.

Hang in there Nape.

Don't think we'll ever see Hayne in the red white and blue mate. SBW maybe but I just don't see Hayne signing for us. That link gets lots of click bait tho unfortunately.

SBW is 30 and my guess is he will want to play in a World Cup again so switching back makes sense for him next season. At 33 he woudnt be guaranteed to get in the NZ World Cup team again.
Hayne has wasted one year of his career in America and as far as I can tell he's about to waste another. When he comes back I'm not sure he would be thrilled at the prospect of going to Para to waste some more. Easts are a club that's always winning things or around the fringes of winning things if I was in his position they would be my number one choice.

I worry that Sam won't be able to sustain his 80 min. effort at lock with his manic approach to the game without coming unstuck big time;especially in defence where he throws himself headlong into tackles with no regard for the consequences. He plays like this when given a roving commission & I know he is terrific at it--but I don't believe it can last.

And without Sam on the paddock in a leader's role we are in trouble!!

It's a bad policy,IMO,to burn out your biggest asset!

In almost all other ways Madge seems to take a conservative approach---he needs to do it with his greatest asset as well!

I understand what you mean about not burning him out. I agree with that. He will be making a lot of tackles in the middle third, whether he is at prop or at lock. If he plays lock then I think he should decrease his hit ups a little in the middle third, but drawing in defenders and using his passing game. In attack, especially when attacking the try line, he would sometimes play a bit wider, like a second rower, targeting some weaker defenders. So he wouldn't necessarily do more work at lock. The only reason I would want Sam at prop is if we have some props out injured and there aren't enough good props available for us to make good metres up the middle third. This has been the case at times this year, so I can see why Madge is doing it. When the team is at full strength, I am fairly confident that Madge will have Sam back at lock.

But does Cook have a better kicking game than Cody Walker and Keary??? I'm asking because I haven't seen him play much before his time at Souths. If the answer is yes, then I would move him to halfback whilst Reyno is out. I have heard that Cook has played a lot in the halves before - more than any position. So if Cook does have a better kicking game than Keary and Cody, then i would move Keary to the interchange where he can come on around the 30 minute as the dummy half, and McInnes can have a break.

Well GI's last year at Souths will probably be next year. Maybe Hayne can be his replacement.

And what does Hayne do in the meantime? Remember it's this NFL season that is make or break for Hayne. He either makes it and he is still in NFL next season or in my opinion at least he won't make it and comes back to the NRL for 2017.

Yeah he might come back to the NRL for the 2017 season - who knows. He might go alright in the NFL this year, and he might stay in it until the end of the 2017 season - maybe even longer.

Can't see it myself which is why I reckon he will be at roosters. I don't think he will have another season of indifference though so I'm certain he won't be GIs replacement in 2018.
