Shocked to see so many Cs, though Catalans and Huddersfield at least would have had Bs

I still think this 'A B C' and 10-point system stuff is a load of rubbish. They should adopt a sliding scale, and whoever scores highest should be in.

There's a whole bunch of clubs that have been put on notice at this point. Address your shortcomings over the next three years or you may very well be replaced.

I don't know why they bothered with a criteria. It was like they had to come up with something that looked concrete to give the process some level of credibility and transparency. But fans of the clubs who missed out were always going to have a big whinge and say it was all contrived and unfair no matter what. They should have just said we'll be expanding SL and we'll be inviting one expansion club and one heartland club to join the current 12 and we'll decide which based on what is the best for RL. That's what they've done and it was all they were going to do all along.

And if the entire 8 clubs fail, who replaces them, D and E grading clubs from NL1?

I'd say Widnes were a C, and quite close to making it... after all the Toulouse mob thought Widnes had the spot over Celtic?!

However I'd expect Toulouse and Leigh and others to be Ds, based on the statements and of what needs to be addressed at each club.

Am not too surprised at that spread of As, Bs, Cs - it seems pretty logical and almost what I would have guessed, if there was a competition to do so...

way more "c"s than i thougt.

looks like the RFL are saying there are 5 really good clubs (wigan are an "a" except for SC stuff) and the rest needs loads of work.

even saints, without a new ground, they will sink away one day.

the future though :

1. salford - new ground, sponsorship, will get crowds over 10,000, they will be able to spend the full salary cap

2. saints - new ground approved, finance almost sorted. will be another strong club.

3. Huddersfield - good ground, growing their crowds every year by around 500 - 1000 pa will become another top club

4. hull kr - slowly improving their ground every year to 14,000 capacity, crowds will break 10,000 soon when the ground can hold it

5. Les Cats - ditto re. crowds.

that gives very strong SL going forward with lots of club getting > 10,000 crowds and full salary cap.

of the others :

1. quins - poor crowds, though up by 25% or so this year, need bigger crowds and need a new owner with leneghan going to wigan

2. wakey - good population, growing crowds, lots of juniors in the area, but ground proposal a long way away

3. cas - small population but their ground is more advanced than wakeys

4. bradford - strong club whose crowds have fallen by around 40% and the cost of maintaing odsal is killing them. if the new ground doesnt get sorted, they have to move to valley parade.

5. CC - will get better crowds than people expect and will have a strong team, but like les cats it will take 5 years or so for them to be a strong SL club

That's probably the worst thing about the system - my local team graded themselves as a joke and ended up getting more 'points' than Featherstone and Halifax. They need to employ a sliding scale, or just drop the points system altogether and grade the individual clubs on their merits.

I can't see Salford getting 10k+ once the novelty has worn off.

Huddersfield still rely too heavily on away support to bolster their crowd figures.
I can't see HKR getting 10k+ gates regularly either
Cas will go better than Wakey even with a smaller population.
