Marked Newport down as one to follow after last start and think he can win this. Very unlucky last start behind Belmonte and the step up to 2000m at his 5th run this prep is ideal. Manton will be hard to beat and is the obvious quinella. Majorca racing like the 2000m is wanted whilst Impatient Star will be there abouts. The filly Dream Machine may run a race at big odds.

once again a pretty bad race for mine

NEWPORT has been working home well this prep and should get the 2000m. hope it gets a good cover back in the field and then a good trail into the race. will love the space of Randwick

and i've always hated MANTON but i've got to respect the form at 2000m for him. his 3 best career runs have been at 2000-2040m

MAJORCA looks like a non-performer to me (everyone get on :lol: )

Race 3 PERCY MARKS FRANK PACKER PLATE (2000m) at 12.50pm

Joice’s thoughts – The only horse that can beat Manton is Manton. A million dollar purchase as a yearling he has always bee far too ‘colty’ in his pre-race attitude but Jown Hawkes appears to have worked him out as was shown when winning the Tulloch Stakes (2000m) April 8. That was a far stronger race than he encounters today and his best performances have been over the 2000m trip. When the main danger (Newport) was beaten fair and square in a midweek Class 3 two runs back it is obvious that there isn’t much depth here.

Payne’s thoughts –The Tulloch Stakes is the best formline to work with here and I’m going the value way with Impatient Star who went ok when 5th behind Manton 2.1 lengths. I think he can go better here as that was his first go over 2000m and he ran off on the home turn. He also goes ok at Randwick. Manton the main danger and Newport will race well here but could be the spruk horse tomorrow and may be under the odds.
