French tours 2015

The release on the RLIF and NZRL sites confirm that at least one test will be played in France. Also interesting to note that the tour is being referred to as a Northern Hemisphere tour versus just of UK & France like previous Kiwi tours.

Might not result in anything but seems like the Kiwis are leaving their options open for adding additional games.

Celtic nations eh ....... so the Cornish Rebels are a chance ! :D

I'd say Wales would be odds on as it will be four years since their last clash (2011). Would be great for the game if they played a development country as well.

Maybe a game in Italy?

I would prefer if NZ went with a 2 series V France before the series V England. Whether they end up going 1 or 2 I'd like to see FFR get ambitious after the success last year and aim for a 20k+ crowd.

A few candidates for suitable stadiums with over 20k capacity:
  • Stade Municipal, Toulouse, 36k
  • Stade De La Mosson, Montpellier, 31k
  • Stade Chaban Delmas, Bordeaux, 34k
  • Park De Princes, Paris, 48k

The last 2 might be a bit too ambitious and they are all Soccer grounds so it would be reliant on availability. The Toulouse FC stadium would be my pick.

Maybe a game in Italy?

I'd like to see that depending on whether they gain full membership or the RLIF, games in Italy, France & England would give the tour a real European feel. If not Wales would be good if NZ were willing to play 5 games.

I can't see the Italians flying in all the heritage players for a one-off test match so if it was just locals the game would be a major flogging. The Italian situation is a joke, the body that has achieved the most development in Italy is the rebel organisation which is the FIRFL. Yet despite this the RLEF just shun them instead of negotiating a resolution to what could be one body that could do big things in Italy.

I can, unless I'm mistaken they will be competing in World Cup qualifiers next year. Assuming of course they sort out their membership.

Totally agree they need to sort their situation out with the 2 leagues though. If they do I would have no problem "rewarding" them with hosting a game against NZ.

For Italy, it depends who they play against as to what team they would select. They would be lucky to have a team strong enough to not get flogged by NZ in a pointless freindly.

It's some leap from NZ playing France to giving the Kiwis a game against Italy, who would look nothing like the WC Italy.

I think from a playing perspective that would be better for Italy making the game a competition.

I once watched my county (state) play a NZ A team and it was good to see the players who travelled who might not make the full test side
