IMO Lyon and Smith are inter related but totally seperate issues. Regardless of Lyon it is my opinion that Smith screwed us over the last 3 years and regardless of Smith it is my opinion that Lyon is simply screwed. I don't think either is a mitigating excuse for the other and IMO while they both tried hard in the end they both screwed us.

Lyon never ever did anything half hearted in a Parra jumper, and is now the devil incarnate.

I wish some would wake up to. He did something half-hearted and walked out on the club. He needs to grow up, realise he signed a contract and stick to it. And if his mortgage is such a problem maybe he should go and find himself a real job.

Smith needs to go, IMO Jamie doesn't need to be seen in blue and gold again, we all agree to disagree - life goes on.

TE and MB - you both need to get over yourselves and realise people DIFFER in their opinions - you want Smith out and Jamie back, I'd like to see both given the arse and others may want both back - just deal with it and stop trying to find a right or wrong answer.

Spot on Colonel, It amazes me how Jamie can walk out on the club, players and supporters and people are ok with this
As for the two richly deserved points, don't see it as giving himself a wrap. It is not like he said I got two points.
I guess any chance to dig the boots into BS. The phrase flogging a dead horse comes to mind

Colonel EEL and Glenn,

at no point have i ever said that I was happy or ok with the fact that Jamie Lyon walked out on Parramatta - it hurt me just as much or more as it hurt everyone else - get it!!!!!

and Colonel EEL

why is it that i should grow up??????????

i make comments expressing my opinion, which you have just done about me and the situation, yet i wasted just bagged to the shithouse and attacked personally for making such comments - i thought you were better than that Colonel - perhaps it is not me who needs to get over myself??????????????????????

It's the price of expressing an opinion that doesn't agree with others TE.

I think we're pretty lucky, in other countries you get executed for expressing an opinion!!!

exactly - i didn't say that everyone had to agree with me????

but they didn't have to act like i murdered someone though???

eelevation......

it could have just said,

we played ok, better than most of the year with people playing in their correct positions and actually gelling and for once we got some luck

means nothing though unless we win a couple of the next games and be consistent

he didn't have to crap on about we owe the Warriors one and we got a well deserved two points???? why did we deserve those points???? what have we done all year to deserve those points - he was just sitting back thinking oh well the pressures off me for one week so i'll talk it up - point is he didn't need to say much at all

and i said he was right about some points, as i try to be fair and objective about things (unlike some others on here) he was right about the players he mentioned for playing well and the fact that they were a bit charitable in making some mistakes and letting Cronulla in

it wasn't so much what he said.....but the way he said it......i am personally just sick of hearing him do his usual little speels about everything - thats it

I never told you to grow up - I think Jamie should.

I understand that you have a very strong view on Brian Smith but some also hold the guy in a different view to you - and we deal with it differently. I'm just tired of seeing everything in here turned into a Smith bashing thread when in 95% of the cases Smith isn't even mentioned in the first place - thats what I am asking you and Misty to get over.

well this was a direct BS thread

i made a comment, an opinion and got personally attacked for it, seems to me that BS is protected from such things on here, but Jamie Lyon and anyone who is willing to stick to a "strong view" on things can be personally attacked

ok....not gow up, but "get over yourselves" - not "get over it" pretty personal i would think, but not half as bad as most

people are obviously still brainwashed and blinded to the problems of BS

but.....thats ok....because that is their opinion on BS and i will respect that

but respect my opinion as well

Stay or Go....

Brian Smith is a good coach. As amazing as it must be to hear that from a Parramatta fan at the moment, it is true. He has taken the club from the very depths of the premiership ladder to the pinnacle in 2001 despite not winning the one that mattered. He has developed players like Hindmarsh, Cayless, Lyon and many other players from promising juniors to the quality players they are today. He has presided over seven straight club championships and one minor premiership. Sure, he hasn’t won a premiership but he did turn around the fortunes of a flagging club and point them in a direction they became familiar with during the late seventies and early eighties.

Right now however, the club is returning to the grim dark days of the early to mid nineties where Parramatta was stalled in the bottom five. I stand by my statement that Brian is a good coach, however I feel that he has given all he can to the Eels over the past eight years. Realistically he has probably been at the helm for three years too long. Games that the team should win are a struggle, while others are intolerable to say the least. Many players have left and gone onto bigger and better things while those players that replace them languish now in first division or on the scrap heap. The team looks as if they have run out of ideas and as the apparent originator of those ideas Brian’s tenure should be reassessed.

At the top of the tree in 2001, having broken records that had stood for quite some time, the Eels were a young and talented team that many considered able to match the feats of past teams who had gone on and won multiple premierships over a period of time.

So what happened?

Subtle changes to the rules left the acting half fed attack of the Eels without the time it had used to their advantage in 2001. The loss of Taylor, Marsh and Buettner took away the nucleus of the halves combination causing a rebuild for the following year. With McFadden and Dykes faltering and Drew seemingly out of form and favour, the Eels struggled to repeat their success of the previous year and take the premiership which had been virtually assured as theirs by the media.

2003 came and went with barely a whimper. For the first time since Smith had taken over as coach the Eels missed the finals despite a last ditch effort at the tail end of the season. Long term injuries to Dykes, Hindmarsh and Cayless among others did not help and depth at the club was sorely tested. The added loss of more players to other clubs again frustrated the faithful especially when these players performed well for their new clubs.

For the 2004 season, Smith decided on a new idea – one that involved recruiting big ugly forwards. Of those forwards recruited only one has appeared in all 20 games while the others have been stuck in Premier League or injured. The combination in the halves has been totally unsettled with at least four players having been used in the halfback position alone. Added to this is the departure after one game of disgruntled backline star Lyon, which pointed to much unrest at the club. Despite some surprise results, the supposed anomaly that was 2003 has declined even further to leave the club in a precarious position just above the wooden spoon.

A reluctance to make changes and drop under performing players or settle on a halves combination leave many Parramatta fans asking whether or not Smith deserves a chance for the 2005 season. With apparent favourites, the careers of some young players seem destined to fail if they do not have confidence restored in their abilities. He has recruited well with the likes of Riddell, Tahu, Morrison and Stringer joining the club, however the Achilles heel of all Eels teams since the departure of one P. Sterling still remains unsorted and subject to much rumour.

In a club that is starved of success, the fans are starting to feel the need for change or at least some reassurance that the debacle that has been the 2004 season will not be repeated. Many supporters believe Smith has had his chances and should bow out gracefully at the end of the season. What will happen remains to be seen however something does need to change and fast.

My view on Smith - hasn't changed, probably won't.

i understand that....

but couldn't understand you attacking me for continuing to air my strong opinion, instead of pretending that one win will change everything and make everything ok

anyway, just forget it, but some people on here need to pull their heads in and practice what they preech in terms of telling people not to attack people on a personal basis

ok fine then William, thats your opinion and i'll respect it, but please respect mine

and as i said, it wasn't so much what he said, but they way he said it, his usual wandering speils just annoy me - i'm over him

don't get me wrong - if we are stuck with BS next year - for the sake of Parra i hope like hell he proves me wrong and the club and he do a Lazarus and rise to the top again, but i just can't see it under him and his current regime, unless he changes his way a little

lets just hope last weeks relatively conventional positional selections were the beginning of a change of attitude and approach from BS

Fair enough- you do have your point of wiew- but I think you may be letting that opinion read into things a bit much- I can't really see anything wrong with what was said.

We do owe the Warriors one- they beat us last time. Thats what the Roosters will be saying in Round 26 about us (heaven forbid)
