Mark my words, two weeks can be a long time in league. Despite the gloom and doom of last week, if we can put on another win next week people will start talking the Eels up as premiership contenders.

This arvo's effort was just the right tonic. It didn't matter that there was lots of dropped ball and penalties, that just made it harder to win and the boys did.

Go you good things!

We sure were a long way off our best, but that was the beautiful part ... we WON and we have so much room for improvement, as you say, it's early in the season and we are only going to get better.

If we beat the Knights next week I will say that we should at worst make the Top 8 this year.

The Broncos wer supposedly in good form after a round 1 victory over the Warriors - now they are out of form.....its a tough competition, things change from week to week.

if we can play with the same commitment against the knights we will be a chance. I think our intensity and will to win caught brisbane off guard.
Avoiding cheap turnovers and reducing the penalties help as well

Before a ball was kicked in anger this year, looking at the draw who would have taken one from two as a start?

I know I would have. Performances aside, thats what we have got.

Looking ahead, I thought a three from six start would be alright.

We always seem to jag the win against Newcastle at Parramatta...ie last season.

Hopefully we can jag another one this week. At least another improved performance and we should be heading down to the ACT for that crunch game in reasonable shape. (thats who we have round 4, isn't it?)

All I was looking for, out of yesterdays match was not a win! but a bit of competivness in which we lacked last week. The fact the we won was fantastic but the way we did it was quite unbelievable! i seen the stats without knowing the score I would have cringed then vomited!

1] 16 to 6 defecit in the penalty count.

2] just over 50% completion rate

3] 50/50 calls going against us!

It was more than a bounce back! it was resurection in the greatest form.

Nobody get carried away.

This team is in a rebuiding phase and will take a few rounds to click.

1997 - Smith takes over and the team struggles through the early rounds. Labelled the "$9 million dollar flops". However, things come together in the middle where they equal the club record for wins later in the season, and it sets the platform for the Eels to dominate in 98 and 99.

2000 - Another rebuilding year. Young Cayless becomes captain, and the young players in Hindmarsh, Vella, Vaealeki, Burt, Lyon are developed. Eels struggle for most of the year, and then everything clicks into place towards the end of the season. Eels sneak into the 8, then charge throught the semis before stopped by the Broncos. Sets it all up for an amazing 2001.

2004 - After a couple of poor years, the moster eels are rebuilt

Anyway, point to all this drivel is that nobody should start slashing their wrists if we are struggling through these early rounds.
To be fair, we made a lot ot errors against the Broncos and it's clear that the team hasn't clicked into a powerful unit - yet.

So if we do lose to the Knights, don't start the crying that the world is about to end. There could be something special brewing here...

I know I might be starting to bore some of you with this, but we can't be world beaters until we shift Wagon out of 5/8. Even if he only plays part of the game there, he shouldn't be there at all.

Trouble is, last season, Brian wasn't allowed to spend $9 Mill. I take your point, though.

That's all true Worm, but I don't think Smithy would have recruited Thorman to stay in PL forever. Witt is coming back from a shoulder injury, and just aint ready for first grade again yet. I think we will see Wagon at 5/8 for a few more games, but then he will move back to Lock.

Smith has bought Thorman to play first grade - but he was never gping to start.

He has always said that we would bring him along slowly, let him find his feet etc.

By all accounts he's starting to find his feet and I am personally looking forward to seeing him run around in the top grade ...
