The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

Talking of stupid! The crowds arent hitting 20k as the clubs are playing in sht stadiums that the fans dont want to go to! When soccer and RL introduced min stadium critieria in the UK lo and behold things developed and funds were found to develop the stadiums to meet min criteria. Dont set a bar and you can be damn sure no one is going to jump.
Are you serious farmer Ray you numpty.???

Why do teams that have ANZ as their home ground not average 20K? Great stadium!!

Ive said it before but I will repeat it for you.... the crowds are down because it’s live on tv, expensive and on at mostly terrible family friendly times.

But sure upgrade all the stadiums, send clubs broke, lose fans and then put clubs in Adelaide with no ability to prop them up when things go bad.

Nrl should introduce a min 25k capacity criteria, with a min 75% seating undercover. Clubs are never going to get rich if they don’t generate a stronger supporter base. Set a 5 yeartimeline for clubs to comply.

So, what happens when the Sea Eagles, Panthers, Sharks, Tigers, Dragons, Raiders and Warriors don't comply with this criteria?

Do they move stadiums? Relocate? Dissolve all together?

That’s what he is saying. Pie in the sky stuff.

Put teams in Perth Adelaide Hobart and Broome. The NRL.... truly national but no one would survive. The travel alone kills that competition. Get real!

Actually, I think 18000 is perfect, not only for the A-League franchise, but also the Tigers. The Tigers can play their lesser games there and take their bigger games to WSS.

Slightly off topic, sorry...but here's the problem with Campbelltown - the Tigers already do play all their 'lesser' games there. I can't remember the last time Campbelltown Stadium was able to host a game against teams like Parramatta, Souths, Dragons. It's only ever out of town teams like Cowboys, Canberra, Titans or Manly who aren't going to draw a big crowd out that way.

Leichhardt has been able to host Souths, Cronulla, Parramatta and the Dragons in recent years, yet Campbelltown is always treated as the ugly redheaded step child of the Wests Tigers venues.
Sorry about the rant, but I hate when the Magpies half of the organisation gets pissed on and forgotten, especially considering their the ones holding the club together.

Campbelltown should be used far more often.

It's a big, growing area.

As a Cronulla supporter I'd say it's one of the easier away grounds to get to as well. Would be more likely to travel there than ANZ. I'd travel to Leichardt but only because I like watching football there. It's an effort but it feels worthwhile.

Fair few of them on Monday nights too IIRC.

Yeah, there's been a few times when I've wanted to head out there to see a game, but couldn't because it was on a Monday.
I'm from the area and have a bunch of friends who love to go to the games there so try to go as often as I can, but recently it hasn't been easy.

Might have something to do with how much support West Campbelltown provide to the club? The Wests Tigers are now 75% owned by Wests Ashfield with Balmain holding the remainding 25%. Wests Campbelltown have not contributed to the club in around 10 years.

I did not realise that.
I wonder why. Probably a question for another thread.

Wow, those are some shitty games.
No wonder the crowds don't turn up.
Theyve played 11 of the other 15 teams there in the last 4 years and not got more than 12k. Its too far from the majority of tigers fans. And that's not a Balmain v West's thing. A lot of old wests fans don't live in cambo either.

Moving finals games to the SCG is doing nothing for crowd numbers or viewing. Crowds will be worse than Allianz

Over the last 19 years, Wests' home games between Campbelltown and Leichhardt have been split as follows (first number is number of games at Campbelltown and second number is number of games at Leichhardt):

Brisbane: 8-1
Canberra: 10-5
Canterbury: 5-0
Cronulla: 5-8
Gold Coast: 5-4
Manly: 2-8
Melbourne: 3-13
New Zealand: 6-6
Newcastle: 8-1
Nth Queensland: 8-8
Northern Eagles: 0-3
Parramatta: 1-5
Penrith: 8-5
Souths: 0-6
St George Illawarra: 3-2
Sydney: 6-3

So Campbelltown gets more Broncos, Raiders, Bulldogs, Newcastle, Penrith and Sydney. Leichhardt gets more Sharks, Manly, Melbourne, Parra, Souths. Obviously, the Bulldogs, Souths and Parra games are all now played at ANZ. Overall, I can see the logic in playing more games against the Raiders and Panthers at Campbelltown in the hope of getting more away fans. The same logic would explain Manly playing at Leichhardt.

In short, I don't see any obvious favouritism in giving better games to Leichhardt. In truth, ANZ gets the pick of the crop, because it pays for this privilege.

They pay for it and also get the crowds to justify it. Ave attendance at ANZ was more than the other two grounds capacity this year.

That is true. Of course, the crowd numbers at Campbelltown and Leichhardt will also look relatively poor because they only get the less desirable games.

I genuinely think that WSS will show that people don't prefer suburban grounds. They just prefer them to ANZ which reportedly has shit atmosphere for club games.

WSS and new Allianz will have the best of both worlds, modern, comfortable facilities with the close viewing position and an awesome atmosphere.

I think the main advantage of suburban grounds is that they are in the suburbs and easier for suburbanites to access (the people who actually care about League).

Better facilities are great but I'd rather drive 5 minutes to stand on a hill than drive 2 hours to sit in a seat.
