Canberra sign utility Danny Galea for 2010 NRL season

November 04, 2009 Canberra have signed former Wests Tigers utility Danny Galea for the 2010 NRL season.
The 26-year-old, who can play in the centres or back row, will add some depth to the Raiders squad following the departure of Phil Graham, Adrian Purtell, Nigel Plum and retirement of Glen Turner.

"I'm going to be given a good opportunity to play some more NRL footy at the Raiders and I can't wait to get into it," Galea said.

"I just want to get on the field first and get myself a position, whether it is starting or on the bench and then hopefully help the team get down to winning some games which is the main thing."

The Raiders begin their pre-season training on Thursday.

I hope this guy goes as well as BH did for us this year.

A solid player who will more than make up for Purtell and Plum.

I think you boys will have a great 2010. Some really good signings and astute off field decisions (club game venues) shows your HQ is on top of things.

Good luck lads,

Our best defender gone
Have a look at our win ratio with him playing last season as opposed to when he didn't ..

Agreed 100% when he hits at least its with some vigour and lets face we hardly scare the opposition with our D

Better than Ellis??

He only started playing well when his contract was up...won't miss him IMO.....

But I'd rather him than Payne

I think it's a general consensus that Ellis is the best so we ignore him ;-)

Galea starting playing well when he was given a decent chance to cement a position ie. Playing for more than 8 minutes off the bench. Also settling into a position and not being swapped between the second and front row helped.

Danny Boy was a good solid player but Iam afraid these days teams have to be ruthless and make hard calls. Iam not saying it is the right call but room has to be made for some of the young talent comming through and their are only limited postions available in our roster.

Could be game time .....surely Dwyer can cover his loss....

I can't see him playing a much different role to what hes done with you guys. Definitely don't expect him to become another BH type of loss.
