Gallop says 16th side possible for 2006

An article in one of the Sunday papers quotes gallop as saying that a 16th team could come into the comp in 2006. He mentioned Gold Coast, Central Coast and Wellington as possible locations.
He also said that Gold Coast are approaching Sydney sides with a plan for relocation.
None of this is new, but it is nice to hear that all our speculation over the past few years hasn't been completely wide of the mark.

I dont think that'll happen Mr Angry...at least not entirely. They are on the short-ish list of meetings for the Gold Coast delegation which is visiting Sydneyin May.

The way Gallop worded it Gold Coast and The Central Coast are first in line, followed by Wellington. If the GC can sell their relocation plan expect a Sydney team to move north and the Bears to come back on the Central Coast. Wellington are more of a long-term proposition.

I don't think the NRL ever seriously considered a second NZ team at this stage.
If we're to speculate priorities, the following wouldnt be far off a long term plan:

2004-2006
Gold Coast (definite Syd relocation)
Central Coast (possible Syd relocation)

2005-2010
Wellington NZ (possible Syd relocation)
Adelaide (definite Syd relocation)

The liklihood of any new 'stand alone' club is very low.

The Gold Coast have pretty good credentials and the best they can get from the NRL is: 'OK, you're in...but you have to convince someone to move up there first'.
