My take is that he is massively overrated at this point. He is the gun kid and feel good story and he may turn into a great player but he isn't there now.

He's 19 in his first year of FG, in a dud side, he has shone through in a lot of games, give him another season or two.

He's by far and away our best attacking player. Early in the game last night he set up 2 tries that a veteran rep player would have been proud of. Especially the second one, where we passed short, then went back to the middle, and then went left again throwing a bullet pass cutting out 3 players to put Tupou in the corner.

For the last month he has been popping up on the right side. This hasn't been effective and you can see he's not comfortable with it, but at least he's trying to learn. Not sure if this is at the direction of the coaches, or something he's done himself.

His defence is poor at the moment. Hopefully over the next 2 years he'll bulk up a bit and that, and experience will help him improve. If Brooks can improve in defence then Galvin can. His kicking game needs a lot of work as well.

I'm not saying he's a future immortal, best young player ever, or any of that stuff. He certainly is showing he is already a good attacking player - our best by far, with the potential to be a star well into the future.

to me, it's essential we re-sign him long term.

If we can't do that, we might as well just admit we're a feeder club for SW Sydney juniors, for the rest of the comp and give up so we can all get on with something more useful in our lives.

Balmain legend Benny Elias has urged Wests Tigers to sign teen prodigy Lachie Galvin to a 10-year deal – likening it to “the stroke of genius” that was the Sydney Swans jagging Lance ‘Buddy’ Franklin.

3 years at the most at this stage. I'd be pretty generous with the cash though.

Problem with a 10 year deal is if the player doesn’t kick on you’re kind of stuffed. How many players have a great few years and never kick on? The Cows signed Taumalolo to 10 years and would love to move him on now.

I think a guy like Galvin is only going to get better and better, especially outside Luai.
I'd still only give him 4 years with options. The reasons are.....
The biggest risk is with injury. He's a tall lanky kid, a thinner version of Tommy Turbo. Long levers (legs) without definition and flexibility he runs the risk of hamstring injuries, syndesmosis injuries (high ankle sprains) and knee ligament tears.
Once a player has had reoccurring of these types of injuries it becomes near impossible to manage.
One could argue that he's the fittest in the club but I'm seeing legs of a school kid, not much muscle, not sinewy.
The second reason is in 4 years or so he may have filled out and have a more solid man's body, he could lose a bit of pace and be suited more to a balling playing lock role.
Could he be a success in the forwards for 6 years time time?
If you can't say 100% yes then it not worth the gamble imo. That's why there has to be a club option in the contract. However if we want to extend him, it's going to cost us more.
