I didn’t see the trial games, but haven’t been able to understand the hype about him being the next big superstar considering he has been in NRL systems for 5 or so years now

Not saying he won’t be good eventually but the expectations have been hugely unwarranted
I'm exactly the same, have been making messiah jokes for a while ... he didn't do any walking on water tonight.

Commentators mentioned Warriors were ranked 14th on attack. Looked like it. Players or coaching? How much is Webster? Stacy Jones was a great player but I dont think coaching is his go. Job for life when you are a club legend, but eventually Dean Bell got the flick. Jones next and they get someone else in there? Also, Walker missing was massive.
Metcalf cant be judged on one game. He looked speedy but wasnt picking the right moments. Came close a couple of times to making line breaks which is hard for this team to do at the best of times. He should hang around AFB when he goes into the line and see if he can get an offload, much like Jones and Webb used to do with Ali.
No TNM, Walker, Volkmann, Egan, Metcalf’s first game back; not going to blame the coach for the attack being a bit limp in that.

Egan obviously a huge out and probably makes the difference tonight in a close game. Calves are normally 4 weeks as well defending on damage.
They also down 5 players, Walsh being the only spine player.

To be fair, it’s probably where you’d expect them to be ranked in attack. They have absolutely no game breaking strikepower in the backline, so they won’t be winning games out attacking anybody. A warriors win will look like good defence and playing a bit more conservative looking for execution and patience to create points

Just watched the highlights on sky

1 thing I hate seeing, is players give up on an effort. The runaway try for the Broncos, Ford was never going to get to him, but chased all the way regardless. In the background Pompey gave up after 15-20m, don’t like that attitude

Have mentioned our coverage previously, embarrassing listening to whoever the token female was last night on the coverage trying to say that call on the jersey grab was a rough one

Johnson and Metcalf didn’t gell

Metcalf over played his hand and the ball didn’t go to Johnson enough
This Metcalf has been around a while now and at a few clubs.

Trials are optical illusions at times. It was a nothing partnership between the two yesterday. As soon as Walker gets back, I'd say he just has to bide his time again.

Blocker was calling it a try during all 3 replays, you could see it was a llegal grab after the 1st.

It was a clear call.

The strip loses x2 that seemed to have the fastest time called on captains challenge I've ever seen in a game and the forward pass for Broncos halftime try where the calls we didn't get.

I missed the late drama. I was half-cut, pissed-off and tired from work that day. At 26-10 it was dinner and a movie with the mrs and our one surviving cat (who, unlike the other one, isn't interested in the Warriors).

Thanks to the rest of you for staying with it.

Metcalf didnt look up to it at all. Not sure if it was a fitness issue, overawed by the occasion or he just isn't that great.

Back to reggies for a bit and bring Volkman back

Thought Metcalf was fine for a debut mid-season, 1-2 good runs, one knock on and one strip not called, Dallen was terrible the first couple of games but has been good since, was a beast in the 2nd half last night, that run as FB was inspirational. Give the kid time to gel.

Imagine what Pompey can do if play aggressive without escorting and jersey grab lol. Should be trying to step and offload to Monty every time

Ale’s drop was a killer, instant PTSD of the old Warriors ghost.

Feels like coach want the team to play % and tuck away the attacking football until later end of the season…clearly kick to the corner and chase won’t work against top teams when they don’t drop the ball at restarts like Ale and Ford and always find a couple of good runs to set up the kick at 40m line

Berry was very good holding the line and started to set up his winger, worth continuing and be the replacement for Pompey or depth then replace RTS when he retires. Probably play him ahead of Williame, Vailea and the new Cup now.

Lol if Metcalfs performance is something you class as fine then you should set your standards higher. He had the worst game I've seen from any Warrior this year. I hope he goes well in the future but I call a spade a spade and he was proper shithouse.

I said fine for a mid season debut, for someone with a year in reserve grade and back from a serious hamy injury, lots of stuff going on for him, and he had a good 3rd game last night lol, SJ’s first game in the trial was the real shit house show lol

Like I said before - it was a poor debut. Missed tackles and turnovers isn't good.

Comparing a top grade half like Shaun Johnson to Metcalf, will only belittle Metcalf.

He's supporting nicely now but he needs to show more if he's going to keep Te Maire Martin out.
