Going waaaaaaaaaay over time with such a slow over rate is pathetic. The penalty is there and after today, it should be used.

I'd wager it won't be though. Not to Ganguly anyway.

Ganuly is my fav player ;-)

Apparantly the first step towards punishment is to cut Ganguly's pay check. Not that that would hurt him in anyway, so why would he care?

Lets hope he is punished though, especially after the NSW debacle.

Ganguly should be fined 50 % of his match fee. Ganguly should be shot and serve as drink waiter for the remainder of the series.

He has no regard for the rules or the fans, he is only interested in moving his fieldsman after almost every ball for very little gain.

It is all rather selfish and very arrogant.

During Hayden/Ponting partnership they ran 38 and 29 singles respectively. Thats 67 out of their 120 plus partnership was singles.

Obviously his field placings arn't working or his bowlers are not bowling where he wants them to.

Either way it is not working, so what's the point in taking all that time.

I think he has to shoulder the blame for the field placings being wrong, because IMO he had some bad field placings, especially behind square leg, when Hayden was batting.

He had either two close in, then Hayden would sweep over the top, then he moved them both back, that's when Hayden just worked the singles.

He took the pressure off the batsman and made it to easy.

Wasting all that time achieved nothing.

Ganguly's time is up - he has been given warnings and I'm confident that the match referee will start putting suspensions and fines in place to back up thus-far harsh, but only harsh words.

Ganguly's contempt for the laws is almost deserving of the umpires putting into practice Law 42 - specifically regarding time wasting by the fielding side. It is nearly on par with the antics of one Ajuna Ranatunga (AKA Acooduza Runnertunga) especially given the inconvenience it represents for the host broadcaster, fans, umpires, players and other stakeholders.

The required rate works out at 15 overs per hour - it is simply ridiculous that after repeated warnings, some sides still cannot get within two cooees of this standard. A generous 4 minutes per over, even with Kumble bowling 45+ overs, is the standard - yet they cannot even reach this mark.

Simply ridiculous - Ganguly is goooorrnne! :x

he is a poor fielder and as the commentators were saying this morning on day 5 that his poor fielding reflects through the whole team thats why there is so many miss fields because he isnt becoming a role model in the field to all the players.

What can you expect with a Ziwi coach?

If India beat the Aussies in Sydney he will be hailed as their best ever captain. I hate him though. He would be OK if he didn't have to field or set a field. He wouldn't make the Aussie side no matter how good a bat he was with that fielding.

So was Gunguly even fined for such a slow over rate and running waaaay over?

He's had a warning in Brisbane and reading this story makes you wonder if it's the same rules for everyone if he wasn't.

I reckon Waugh will be fined after today. If he is it will prove sub-continent teams are treated different to the rest.

When he was with Lancashire, as our overseas player, he did not socialise with the players, and was very aloof and arrogant. I remember one game when he reached 50 runs, not one player came out onto the pavilion balcony to applaud him!

Its actually Kiwi, its a flightless bird if you aren't aware. I'm not sure what a Ziwi is.

John Wright is certainly not one to be tardy. He was like a rock batting wise, he reminds me a lot of Mark Richardson. Very determined and committed - very competitive to his teams cause, a professional. Since he's been in control they've stunned Australia in India, ableit two poor non LBW decisions in Melbourne stunned Australia in Australia, and taken a team who can't play on non sub continental decks to the World Cup final in South Africa.

I think his record as a cricketer and coach stacks up for itself, Kiwi or not.

How did Ganguly become captain anyway? It's because his family is one of the richest in India and up there in the social circles isn't it?

It seems even his own players don't think much of him. One of the commentators during the first ODI said, "Ganguly going after the Aussies and scoring is making the other players think, if HE can do it then so can we too". Indicated to me that they don't rate his ability.
