And most of us didn't like Maloney before he was a Panther - I like the synergy.
Otherwise known as the Jamie Soward Effect.

There’s been a bit of talk about this, good insights from Gus.
My question though, why sign so many guys to 4 & 5 year deals when the cap is so difficult to manage?
Long deals make for an inflexible roster.
So far we’ve got lucky with Cartwright & Moylan. They never earned the length of the deals they got, nor did Whare. Also think there’s an argument players get lazy under long deals.
Some of those deals will catch up with us eventually.
I think the answer is simple, it provides certainty. If the player is reliable and consistent it makes sense. The second reason is that it provides stability for your key players in the spine positions. There’s been a bit of talk about this, good insights from Gus.

I got the impression from the Podcast that both parties view the concept of a “contract” with a fair degree of flexibility. Gus referred as often to the notion of “moving someone on” as he did about “upgrading them”.
4 & 5 year deals I agree are problematic, but other than Whare, is there now anyone left in our club on a deal like that?

As long as you don't have too many players with long term contracts, you still have plenty of flexibility in your roster.
Wouldn't the defending team be more likely to give penalties? Less damage in the scoreboard, more opportunity to rest and reset their line. This is a random thought, and not based on tonight’s game, but I really wish the penalty goal was reduced from two points to one point. They have been so ridiculously overused in 2018 and have decided so many games, I’m afraid our game is turning into rugby union.
If a penalty goal was only worth one point, attacking teams would be less inclined to go for them, and then defensive teams would not feel the need to give away penalties on the line in the hope the opposition goes for goal. As a result, there would be less penalties and more free-flowing footy, especially on the try line
If the NRL so badly wants to reduce the amount of penalties per match and promote itself as an entertaining game, I think this would be an ideal starting point.
Pretty accurate. We are going to need a lot of heart and old fashioned digging deep the next few weeks.
I think we will win all three of those.

Well thats us done for the yearYeah I'm getting more confident each week.
This was a shock:
Same. Cows turned up had 54% of the ball in the 1st half and we still got back into the game.
Cleary back for Tigers game. He will fix 2 of our defence problems in one go. Even if his attack takes time.
Yeo/CHN have struggled at times with faster guys at them while Peachey has struggled defending 3 in which is the hardest spot on the field.
Cleary gets Yeo back to the pack and Peachey to centres that alone should take a try or 2 off defence wise. Only have Knights before then they have been shown up in defence in plenty of games
As long as the team keeps it's current intensity we will start looking like giants when we get players back.
Even if we lose this week. We are still 6 from 10 pre season most would of taken that. Far better than the 2 from 9 last year
That is without the injuries. Peachey gets sloppy in defence after long games. 2nd rowers struggling to read the play defending out of position. Dumb options to end sets are the 3 areas letting us down... Reinforcements fix that. Top 4 is very much on
Dragons will be tough if they can keep their 17 together. But we'll have Cleary and probably Merrin back, Peachey to centre and May on the bench. We'll give them a game.I think we will win all three of those.
True... You can tell he has a huge impact on the young fellas.... Id still rather a coach with that and some tactical awareness .... He can't coach for shit lets be honest.... Prime example was last week, putting Kikau in the centres over Yeo...He might not be a tactical mastermind, but Hook has instilled belief, guts and intensity in this team like you wouldn't believe. Seriously, we were 20 nil down. Merrin was watching with his arm in a sling. The refs were blowing up penalties for the tiniest transgression whilst watching the Cowboys do the same and looking the other way. Phillips 7 first grade games, Katoa 17, Kikaua 18, Crichton 7, Leota 22, Hetherington 2. This team is just so inexperienced and they just keep coming like the Black Knight. "It's just a flesh wound". We finish four tries all and with the Cowboys praying for the whistle to blow.
Hook is obviously a nice person because all the Broncos players spoke highly of him when he left and Wallace took getting dumped on the chin and has been able to work with him. He needs either a great half or a tactical coach to help coach attack, but he seems to be able to deliver committed players ready to fight for the cause.
